Justin with Cacao
Cacao was the alpha Spider Monkey The two weeks that Justin and I spent at La Senda Verde animal refuge were awesome.
It is located on the Yungas Road, not too far from Coroico. We were able to work with so many amazing people and animals there. Justin built a bridge!
At La Senda Verde I...
Pet a Toucan and made him purr
Scratched an ocelot´s head
Spun a monkey round and round like a whirlwind
Got shat on by Mr. Bean, a neurotic Amazonian parrot
Had a Andean Spectacled Bear lick my fingers
Saw a tortoise orgy
Played in the mud with a woman-hating capuchin
Got nibbled by a Coati
Had awesome fondue for super cheap
Got a wet willy from a Kinkachu
Was hungry a lot
Witnessed a 600km illegal march to save a national park
On a more somber note, on June 19th, we were on our way over to feed the quarantined animals when we heard a large crash and a scream. The local vet came running up, yelling for help, and we ran with him. We were the first on the scene.
A pickup truck had fallen from the road about 10m above our carport, flipping onto its side. There had been several people sitting in the bed of the truck, and the scene was quite gruesome. Justin and fellow volunteers leapt into action, righting the overturned car and pulling more people out of it, caring for them until ambulances arrived. It was tragic, but lucky that it happened where it did, so that so many people could help. You can find the article (with Justin and other volunteers on the front page) here:

I did a search for "mr bean la senda verde" and your guys blog came up in the number one position!
I could remember exactly what kind of bird Mr. Bean was, lol. Howdy from Canada, too bad you guys missed the official opening of the bridge. It was a much needed and well executed considering the "obstacles". Mike and Mel http://meltravels.withsquirrelly.com/
