Arrived in Rosario, 12th March, following a 4 hour bus ride through flat, green and fertile agricultural land. After checking into our Hostel we went straight out for a walk down the pedestrianised central street down to the river for a walk and meal. You can not move for people jogging, cycling, skating and enjoying the public parks and walkways it gives the town a lovely atmosphere. Second day we saw the colossal monument to the designer of the argentine flag (Manuel Belgrano). He is buried beneath it, overlooking the Parana delta which Rosarinos are very proud of along with the fact that Che Guevara and Lionel Messi were both born here. Day three we found a wonderful Parrilla (steak house), which was taken over by the staff after the owners went bust and is now ... read more

From Puerto Igauzu, we took a Crucero del Norte bus to Rosario. Not only did they feed us like they do on all the long distance buses in Argentina, but they also gave us sparkling wine! Two glasses! On top of the regular wine they gave us with our meals. And the seats are pretty comfy - if you pay for the cama or semi-cama, the seats recline back and you are given blankets and pillows so you can get a good nights rest. We arrived in Rosario around 10am and took a city bus from the station to near our hotel, Plaza del Sol, not too far away from Plaza 25 de Mayo. To get on the bus, one must buy a ticket from a machine just behind the bus driver that accepts change only. ... read more

Šiandien paskutinė mano diena Buenos Airėse, tad reik nuvažiuoti į miestą ir išsikeisti daugiau pinigų. Pinigus geriausia keisti miesto centre, pagrindinėje pėsčiūjų gatvėje, nes ten gatvės prekeiviai siūlo geresnį kursą. Oficialus valiutos kursas 1eur=6,5 peso, tuo tarpu gatvėje 8,5 peso. Jis mane nusivedė į šialią esantį pastatą,... read more

Butas labai kuklus, bet merginos labai svetingos. Ta proga, kad aš pas jas svečiuosia, nusprendžia man paruošti tradicinius Haitiškus pietus. Troškinta vištiena, kepti makaronai, bei ryžiai su juodom pupelėm. Maistas nėra labai egzotiškas, bet pietūs tikrai labai geri. Dieną nutariam niekur neiti, nes mieste labai karšta. Paklausom šiek tiek Lietuviškos, po to šiek tiek Haičio muzikos, po to dar trumpai pasnaudžiam. Ry... read more

Not every blog has to be about an amazing place...not every blog has to be about another exciting experience... This blog is simply about another week in Buenos Aires and our nice week-end in Rosario....but what makes this blog better, is that Leslie is now 12! Happy birthday big guy...you are soon on your way to be a fully fledge teenager...and me...an happy father! Imagine, this week-end, it was not only Leslie birthday, but also the birthday of our first month in Argentina! First, and most important, Leslie! Well...the place was not the right one for a birthday celebration, and Leslie did understand this. He would simply consider Rosario as...a slightly boring city...you and I in the adult world would call it a pretty quiet provincial city...perception...who is speaking of perceptions.... We did not figure out ... read more

Day 82 Sunday 1st January Have you seen the movie “28 Days Later” or any Zombie movie, well this is what the streets of Cordoba were like, no one, no cars, no people, and for that matter no dogs, nada, just us. It was like the people in our hotel went to sleep last night and everyone else disappeared and we were expecting the zombies to appear at any moment. We started the day normally, having breakfast and because it was New Year’s Day we just knew that nothing would be open so we sort of planned on just hanging around in the room. We didn’t think we would be getting our room cleaned but at 10.30 three women came around and kicked us out of the room so they could clean it. We ... read more

Despite their reputation, we found most of the locals in BA to be helpful and kind, but that didn’t help ease the shock of how expensive everything was. We did our research from a Lonely Planet guidebook that was five years old (oops!) and it seems Argentina is not as affordable as it was. Prices have at least tripled and in some cases are up to 10 times as much as we’d expected. So after one night we hopped on a four hour bus to Rosario, a small city on a wide river. It was here that we noticed everyone, and I mean every single person, was carrying a small pot and a thermos. We asked the guy at the hostel what it was and he said ‘yerba mate’ - a strong herbal tea that Argentineans ... read more

A couple weeks into the Copa Mundial (World Cup) and I’m finally getting around to writing about it. So far, I’ve watched nearly every game in a café, bar, bakery, grocery store, you name it. I won’t go into details on who I think is doing well or bad, other than saying I think this is the worst year England has ever seen. I mean, tying the Americans and Algeria? What happened?!?! The Americans are doing “well”. Pulling off that tie to England which really should have been a win if they weren’t playing so horribly. And that comeback tie to Slovenia that, due to some horrible refereeing, wasn’t a win. If the American team picks up their play, they will be the team to beat this year. Uruguay has been a pleasant surprise in Group ... read more

Having finished in Buenos Aires for now, my plan was to follow the Paraná River northwards to the Paraguayan border. The Paraná meets the Uruguay river to form the River Plate just outside Buenos Aires, and is in fact the second longest in South America, with one of the largest basins in the world. The first stop, 4 hours by bus from Buenos Aires, was Argentina’s third city, Rosario. Rosario proved to be quite an interesting stopover, though it definitely didn’t feel like the 3rd biggest city in the country. The compact centre (el microcentro) was full of the same sort of shops that Buenos Aires had, only quite a bit cheaper, as well as a few interesting museums and places to see. The main reason Argentinean tourists come to the city is to see the ... read more
