MESA VERDE: Kiva

Hopi word for ceremonial room. Underground chamber, may have been used to conduct healing rites or to pray for rain, luck in hunting, or good crops. A roof of beams and mud covered each kiva, with a hole in the center for access. The small hole in the floor is a sipapu, the symbolic entrance to the underworld. ********* Palabra hopi que significa sala de ceremonias. Cámara subterránea, podría haber sido usada para realizar rituales curativos o para pedir lluvia, suerte en la caza, o buenas cosechas. Cada kiva estaba cubierta con un techo de beams y barro, con un agujero en el centro como acceso. El pequeño agujero en el suelo es un [i]sipapu[/i], la entrada simbólica al inframundo

With no strange buses to board nor people to fight with, our travels through North America in our hire car were blissfully uneventful. We did lots of driving and enjoyed the incredible views enormously, but didn't fit in any heavy walking as it was so hot we could've fried an egg on the car's bonnet.
