Chapel of the Crown of Thorns, Notre Dame

The relic of the “Crown of Thorns” is venerated on the first Friday of each month in this chapel. This relic was brought to Paris in 1239 by Saint Louis, the king of France. He built Sainte Chapelle to house this relic. In 1806 this relic was returned to the Cathedral.

We left for Notre Dame early on 8/7 in an attempt to arrive before most of the visitors start lining up in Place Parvis to climb the bell tower of Notre Dame. Although we arrive before 9 am, the line is already forming, and at 9 am the line is long. The gates for the tower do not open until 9:30.
