Riding an Elephant

Mary and Dick taking a ride. It was very comfortable and we felt safe in our wooden box perched atop the elephant, even when he climbed a steep hill. There were several baby elephants in the camp who were very friendly and loved to be fed bananas. If you gave one money (a paper bill) he would take it in the tip of his trunk to a nearby fruit stand, and wait patiently for the proprietor to take the money and give him a small bunch of bananas in exchange.
