The TV Tower

During the Cold War, East Berlin erected this massive phallic symbol in an attempt to prove to the West that they too could be technologically advanced. The problem was that the ball on the top wouldn't stay on straight so they rang Russia (who had a similar tower) and asked how they got it to stay up. Russia told them in confidence that they got the Swedish engineers in during the night to do it. So East Berlin got Swedish engineers in secretly to finish the job. The Swedes did leave their mark of course and when the sun shines on the tower you can see a massive cross that glows. The Communists obviously weren't too keen on the cross adorning their symbol of technology and power so tried in vain to remove it. In defeat they claimed that it isn't a cross but a plus sign - you know for communism......yeah right.

Well we've almost caught up, we were only in Berlin last week! Upon arriving in Berlin our expectations were shot as we walked from train station to hostel in a seemingly dodgy area.
