Saturday 9th January, 2016. At Sea En Route to Gran Canaria Saturday we got up early and went for a posh breakfast. The service was dreadful and D was very pissed off. M went to make a monocrome card and then off to make a keyring. The lecture at 11 was on Albatrosses and was very interesting. After lunch in the restaurant we spent the rest of the afternoon in the cabin as M had a dicky tummy. This meant that we missed the second photography lecture which was a shame. Tonight was the Captain's Welcome Party and our first Formal Night of the cruise. So we got poshed up and went along. Dinner was Lamb Shank for M and Sea Bass for D. The show was the Magic of the Musicals which was quite good. ... read more

Geo: 18.3435, -64.9791Whoa! We've been on the MOVE!With the Christmas winds behind us, we made an aggressive move from Culebra to the BVI with only overnight stops in between. The Northern Swells were coming and we had to get moving towards SXM for Tony's birthday. We stopped in Brewer's Bay, St. Thomas for one night and then carried on to the BVI. Our first stop was Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke. While Tony was ashore to check us in, he bumped into an EYC member or two!!! Bob and Bob (From A dock) were sailing around the BVI for a couple of weeks. Tony came back to the boat to pick me up and we enjoyed a quick catch up with "the Bob's" before we made our way to Diamond Cay to get ourselves out of ... read more

Friday 8th January At Sea En Route to Gran Canaria On Friday D went for breakfast while M had a lie in. The Painting on Silk session which M loves was overfull so she went and made a fridge magnet instead. At 11 am we went to the lecture which was called "A Personal Introduction to South America" We have seen a guy on board a number of times who reminds of a friend of ours in our Globetrotters Group in the U3A Costa Brava. The likeness is incredible - such that we both thought it was our friend Paul the first time we saw him. Imagine our suprise then 'Paul' steps on the stage to deliver the lecture. His real name is Clive Leatherdale and we both thoroughly enjoyed his lecture - although M wanted ... read more

Wednesday 6th January, 2016. At Sea. Today we found out that the Captain (Antonio Morais) is the same guy that was sailing the Azores that we were on last January. We went for a posh breakfast (as opposed to a self-service canteen breakfast) where you get served by a waiter. We sat with two ladies called Janine and their partners Robin and John. Bridge came into the conversation and Robin was very keen for M to go and play as his wife didn't. M politely declined as she doesn't do Rubber Bridge. We went to a lecture on the Wildlife of the Atlantic at 11 am and then M had a bowl of soup in the canteen. We sat in the library for most of the day as it is in the middle of the ship. ... read more

Geo: 18.3135, -65.2864Has a nice ring to it, yes? ..."Christmas in Culebra". ;) We had decided in the summer months that we'd spend Christmas in Culebra. So when our friend Darren asked if he could visit for Xmas, we immediately told him to book a flight to Culebra, Puerto Rico! Darren joined us for ten days over Xmas and New Years. We spent Christmas Day on the beach, ate way more pizza than planned, ate out, ate in, and experienced an amazing NYE party that you had to see to believe. The game of cribbage became a competition sport. The guys played numerous games in order to determine who was the cribbage champion. I'm not sure who took the title in the end. The only thing we didn't get to do was take Darren sailing! The ... read more

Thursday 17th December, 2015. At Sea en Route to Madeira We had a posh breakfast and M labelled the photos from yesterday and wrote the blog before going to the improvers Bridge lesson with Tony and Sheila. We had lunch in the Grampian restaurant for a change but decided that it wasn't as nice as our Thistle restaurant so we won't be doing that again. After lunch M went to the duplicate bridge session and D went to the Observation Bar to read and listen to the pianist. We met up with Tony and Sheila for a pre-dinner drink and a catch up. Dinner was a trial run of their Christmas dinner next week. M had the Turkey and D had the Sole. The show was a rehersal of the Christmas show presented by the Braemar ... read more

Sunday 13th December, 2015. At Sea En Route to Agadir Went for a posh breakfast and then straight to the card room to see if it was "our" Tony and Sheila doing the Bridge classes - and it was!!! We had a bit of a catch up and then M went to the Improvers Class to see if she remembered anything. Lunch was a roast beef carvery in the restaurant and in the afternoon M went to play Duplicate Bridge while D went to the piano recital. Dinner with Carol and Wally was followed by a really good magician and a nightcap in the bar. We haven't decided what to do tomorrow as we are only there for 6 hours and the birth is a shuttle bus ride from the town. We will see what we ... read more

Geo: 18.3135, -65.2864We didn't spend many days at the marina in Fajardo. We sweated it out and prepped the boat to move ourselves to Culebra. Once here, it took us a few days to get back in the groove, but that first morning, having our coffee in the cockpit, we knew we were back in our groove. ... read more

The ship is now looking very festive. The colour scheme is gold and silver. I would have preferred some splashes of red and green along the way but then that's why I'm not allowed to decorate our tree at Christmas!!! The Christmas songs are all by the original artists such as the 1947 version of 'Here Comes Santa Claus', ‘I'll be home for Christmas' (1943) and ‘Let it Snow, let it snow, let it snow' (1945). From some of the scratches it sounds like they are being played on the original vinyl as well!! As for the last track I mentioned: ‘Let it Snow, let it snow, let it snow', Princess should redub the track: ‘Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain as despite the temperature remaining warm, we have had rain at some ... read more
