Oceans and Seas » Atlantic February 24th 2016

Wednesday 24th February, 2016. Cruising the Atlantic Ocean We didn't bother with breakfast again. At 11.00 am we went to see Clive's final lecture "Lisbon: Shaken Not Stirred - And Reflections On South America". After lunch we went to the quiz at 3.30 pm. 'We were Robbed' held our own but didn't win. After dinner we went to the 'Stars for a Night' show. This was largely a passenger show where the Musical Theatre Group, the Tap Group, and the Passenger Choir performed the numbers they had been praticing all cruise. Added to this mix were two crew performers. One guy did a drum solo and Laz (our lovely barman from Scott's Bar) sang a couple of numbers. Pam and M had front row seats next to Sandra. John was in the show. It was surprisingly ... read more

Geo: 17.1207, -61.8451We dock in the colonial town of St Johns, Antigua just before 7am. Adventure of the Seas follows us in and moors alongside us and P&O Britannia which was already here before either of us. We breakfast in the main dining room with a view out over the town. We have been here once before back in 2005 when we spent a week in Antigua. Our hotel was situated in the south east corner of the island but we took a day trip to St Johns one day. Ironically there were cruise ships in port that day and Serenade was one of them. Having seen most of the island on our previous visit we decide to just venture into St Johns today to do some sightseeing and shopping. As we don't have a tour to ... read more

Geo: 13.8941, -60.9686Our plan was to rise earlier than normal this morning so that we can see the Pitons that are located near the southerly tip of St Lucia. These iconic twin mountains are the subject of many a holiday snap and as we are heading to Rodney Bay which is the north of the island we fear we might not see them. Alas, even though we went to bed early the ship is docked in Castries by the time we get up.Slightly earlier tour time today and so we shower early and head to the Windjammer. I have cheesy scrambled eggs..a first. As usual we are early for our 8.15am meet time. It's almost impossible and unheard of for either of us to be late for anything. Peter and Patrick. P&P. Properly Punctual. We meet Shanga ... read more

Sunday 21st February, 2016. Cruising the Atlantic Ocean In the morning we went to a cooking demo in the Captain's Club. There were three chefs there including Lovely Jubbly and the head honcho. Katie was commentating. We didn't take much notice of the cooking but it was good fun listening to Katie propose to each chef in turn as they produced their delicacies. After luch in the restaurant we went to the quiz (didn't win). After dinner we went to the show which was called "Shake the 60's" presented by the show team. It was pretty good. We followed this with "An Evening with Katie" up in Scott's Bar.... read more

Saturday 20th February, 2016. Cruising the Atlantic Ocean We passed the morning catching up with blogs, reading and doing puzzles then we went for lunch in the restaurant. At 3.30 we went to play in the quiz with Christine (John has got the lurgy). The new name for our team is "We were Robbed" due to the two instances when we were "robbed" of the keyring prize! We didn't win. At 4.30 we went to see Eggies in the Captain's Bar which was a giggle as usual. We went to see the "Opera & Beyond" show after dinner. This was more operetta with lots of 'Rat Pack' songs. The performer was a new guest act called Laurence Robinson. It was OK but not magnificent. We went to the disco with Danny afterwards.... read more

Geo: -31.0529, -92.7246The trip started with three days at sea. We spent our time going to lectures, port talks, and shows, exploring the ship, trying all the variety of dining venues, and getting in lots of walking and reading. My goal is walking 10,000 steps every day. Philip's goal must be to read every book he has loaded on his iPad. There will be eight formal nights on this cruise. The other nights are called "informal" and the dress code for them requires a jacket for men, but not a tie. The women's dress on informal nights is a cocktail dress or “smart separates”. Two of the formal nights were the second and third night of the cruise. The captain had parties to meet the guests on those nights. The first one was for the Grills' ... read more

Friday 19th February, 2016. Cruising the Atlantic Ocean After breakfast we sat in the Captain's Bar while D did his puzzles and M caught up with some blogs and downloaded the photos from the camera. We went for a slightly early lunch and then went out on the deck for the judging of the boat building competition. As the sea was a bit rough Ross informed us that the pool could not be filled so the boats could not be floated today. They had got a paddling pool in case of this event but it turned out Katie had purchased a pool cover (with tie holes) rather than the actual paddling pool. Therefore, the competition would be in two parts: initial judging today and the float test tomorrow. This is a competition which we had seen ... read more

Thursday 18th February, 2016. Cruising the Atlantic Ocean They were still working on the cushion so M gave the craft a miss again. After lunch we played in the quiz and came joint first. On the tie break we guessed the answer but said we weren't sure. The other team won. Later M went to ask Mitch what the correct answer was. It was the answer we had given "but you said you weren't sure" said Mitch - obviously a mix up with the English language! After dinner we went to the show which was "Love is in the Air" which we followed up with the Disco with Ross called "Party Party Party". The songs were a bit cheesy but after a while we did have a boogie.... read more
