Day 1 20/05/14
Thanks to Brian and Robyn Rumble for
dropping us off at the Port of Brisbane to begin our adventure on the Dawn
Princess, apparently there were nearly 2000 passengers embarked in Sydney and
only 276 in Brisbane, numbers seem about right,
should make for an interesting time when the state of origin is shown.
We cast off at about 5:00 p.m. and headed
out to sea, where we experienced calm seas and good weather. At 5:45 p.m. we
made our way to the Florentine dining room for our evening meal, we have a
table of six but there were only two who showed up, two ladies from N.Z. they
both seem like nice girls around our age, and will be our dining companions,
until they disembark in Auckland. The meal tonight was superb hot pot soup for
entrée, and scallops for main, with sugar free mousse cake for dessert. Seeing
as how this is only day one we are going to keep an eye on our calorie intake
and hit the gym each day, or I will come back looking like the Michelin man.
After dinner we went and watched a guy by
Brisbane departure
View from Fisherman's Island the name of Patrick Roberts perform
in the theatre, he is a well known violinist and his show was much appreciated
by a packed house.
Day 2 21/05/14
This morning we were woken up by our room
steward with a nice hot cup of tea, unfortunately neither of us slept well last
night, it was an interruption we could have done without but that is the way it
goes. Breakfast was in the Florentine dining room, we are both trying to watch
what we eat as our backs are still to sore to do much exercise, so I had
yoghurt two boiled eggs and toast and Colleen had scrambled eggs with toast. No
morning tea, and soup and salad for lunch. Tonight is the first formal dining
night so we are getting dressed up in all our glad rags, and meeting for drinks
in the Wheelhouse bar at 4:30 p.m.
We played trivia this morning and got 13
right out of 20 not a bad result. I think I was the only one to correctly guess
the question to “in North Carolina which mammal is it illegal to use to pull a
plough in a cotton field.” As I did not have a clue I wrote down elephant guess
what? right answer. At 12:15 p.m. they had a veterans meeting in “jammers” we
all had to get up and introduce ourselves there was one guy there who said he
thought he was the youngest in the group, I asked him did he not have any
mirrors in his cabin, I hope he took it in the right spirit, as he is a big
bugger. Dinner was great beef Wellington medallions, melted in my mouth, we
also met the other couple seated at our table Bev and Carmen from Christchurch
now residing on the Gold Coast.
After our evening meal we went to the
Princess theatre to watch the Princess dancers who put on a review from the
1920’s thoroughly modern Millie etc. It was terrific great music, costumes etc.
From there we went to the Vista lounge for a game of Blankety Blanks for our
first and last time, then on to Karaoke where there were some less than
memorable singers of which I was one, then back to our cabin and into bed at
11:00 p.m.
Day 3 22/05/14
This morning another cup of tea at 7:00
a.m. then a lazy couple of hours lying in our cabin reading before heading to
Horizons for breakfast, where I enjoyed an omelette and crunchy American bacon
yum. We went to trivia again this morning and our brains trust of six could only
manage 9 out of 20 I think it was the kiwi girls who let us down.
I had a game of carpet bowls this afternoon
not much success as a matter of fact I played lousy, must have been the roll of
the ship, Ian and Sandra Marsden played better than I did.
Dinner tonight in the Florentine dining
room where we prefer to eat as the portion sizes are much smaller and we don’t
tend to eat as much, plus the food is hot and is always delicious.
After dinner we went to the Tom Jones show
it was the same performer we saw on our last cruise he is quite humourous, even
though we had heard his jokes before they are still quite funny, back to our
cabin by 9:00 p.m. for an early night.
