Hello Everyone! We are glad to be here in PNG; ran into some visa issues so we ended up spending a day in Brisbane while the rest of the team (minus Greg) went on to Port Moresby, PNG. We arrived very late Wednesday night but received a very warm welcome. On Thursday (our first full day in PNG) we met the wonderful staff at the HOPE Worldwide office before heading out to visit some of the HOPE projects: the Six Mile School & Nine Mile Clinic. We took some short videos of the children at 6 Mile School; they are so precious!!! They sang some songs for all of us :-). Without this school, many children would have little or no education and ultimately have less opportunity to earn a decent living. Our group has brought ... read more

Hi everyone! I am so glad tobe back in PNG after a two year break. All the disciples here are so excited to see us. I am always inspired and convicted by their love and hospitality. The Williams are taking good care of us and Zion & Bryce are also great hosts. You would all be so proud of the mission team here. They are working hard despite the heat and language barriers to give. Annabel is really going after her pidgin. Bruce and Cathy along with the Foxes are also giving their very best. Greg is arriving today and we can not wait to see him. Please continue to pray for us all and remember we love you all dearly. Praise God, I (Greg) finally made it to PNG!!!!!!!!!! I was stuck in Brisbane Australia because PNG would not let me in the country because my passport was to expire in 5.5 months (PNG requires at least 6 months on a passport). That's not the only issue, however. All my luggage was also lost. It didn't seem like a good scenario but God had a plan. You see, I had prayed before the trip that God would work it out that I could see my friend Dino who lives south of Sydney. With our tight itenerary and the great distance between Brisbane and Syndey, I didn't see how it could happen...but God did. I was forced to fly to Sydney to get a new passport issued. I wasn't hampered by carrying a lot of luggage...I had ... read more

Today is our first full day in PNG. Last night the first 4 of us went to dinner with some other disciples. It was a lot of fun and the Chinese food was GREAT! Pete and Deena joined us late last night and we found out that Greg will be here tomorrow so we will be back to full strength. Today we were able to visit the 6 Mile school, the 9 Mile clinic, the drug and HIV/AIDS programs and the place where the boxes of donated books are packed up for the schools and mobile library. It's been really great to see everything. The kids in the school are so fun. We have some wonderful pictures and Deena got a video of all the school kids singing "Where is Thumbkin" for us. We really disrupted ... read more

PNG News: Just Visiting April, 2005 This is the last PNG News! To anyone who read each and every one of these, congratulations welcome to my snakes and ladders experiences. If you have been more discriminating in your reading you will be aware of the varied quality of the reports depending on my moods. I am not of this place, and my time here has been a collage of bright meri blouse encounters. Ways of being in the world- the laughter, the young men holding hands, the strong women carrying billums hanging from their foreheads. On this tapestry, which are in fact colonial remnants there are beetle nut stains. Thoughts and words are whispered and swallowed instead of being spoken out loud. Bigman actions are corrupt and patronizing. Dependency and cargo cult are well rooted into ... read more

PNG News Up the Lazy River March 25, 2005 It was like you would imagine it- floating on a log (in truth it was a long dug out canoe with a 25 hp engine) visiting dusty cathedral proportioned haus tambarans (sometimes called haus boys) with earth tone painted shields and totems. Planti of crocodiles, marsupials and insects in the swamps and amazing birds including white and black herons, and birds of paradise. The ever changing Sepik River is fast flowing, silt coloured and meanders. Air Nuigini transported me to Wewak to rendezvous with my English fellow explorer Sue Baker (www.lastfrontierarts.com.pg), followed by MAF delivering the two of us to Ambunti to our two guides with the dugout canoe. “Pilots flying for MAF- the Mission Aviation Fellowship- had the worst crash record. They had a reputation, it ... read more

PNG News - Baa February 18th, 2005 Baa Baa Black Sheep Have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir Three bags full One for the master One for the dame And one for the little boy Who lives down the lane. Just down the lane from my official work at Good Shepherd Seminary, senior statesman and PNG’s current governor general, Sir Paulias Matane spoke at the Fr. Peter Secondary School. (February 6, 2005) At the podium, amongst Western Highland’s bigmen, he told us that when he was 17 year old boy he went to school for the first time and memorized this rhyme. He asked his teacher ‘what is a black sheep? And what is wool? What is a dame? And a lane?’ He didn’t ask about the word ‘master’. His teacher, who he suggested had ... read more
