Thursday 5th April to Monday 7th May 2007 Where the bloody hell is she now?! I hear you ask! Well, the Banks Peninsula is the sticky out bit to the right of Christchurch. Kinda like a New Zealand version of East Anglia! (Except not flat!) The main town in the Banks Peninsula is Akaroa. Now there are two stories here (bear with me as I know I'm not good at telling short stories!)... The first is that Captain Cook thought the area was an island and named it Banks Island after the Botanist Sir Joseph Banks. Later it was realized the area was connected to the mainland, hence the name Banks Peninsula. Story two... The area was 'claimed'/'agreed to be settled by the British' with the Maori's of the area.
