New Zealand, stage two of our global travels. Saying our farewells to Fiji we flew to Christchurch on 17th February on an easy four hour flight. Landing at Christchurch was a relief . Firstly, the temperature was a pleasant 20 degrees; secondly, customs and immigration was quick, pleasant and efficient ( well obviously we didn’t declare the possum!); and thirdly, our bags arrived the same time and place as us. After picking up our hire car it was an easy two hour drive to Tony and Kerri’s near Geraldine (Tony is colleague of Dave’s from BTCV days). What a fantastic house, surrounded by farmland and with big garden. We were made to feel very welcome in their great house and huge garden and after a few beers, chatting about old times, we were able to unwind. ... read more

Alright folks, i know we haven't written in quite some time but it's only because we were preparing the best blog yet. We've just finished the Heaphy Track in the South Islands of New Zealand and had the greatest experience in doing so. Here's a little info on the tramp for the eager learners out there: The Heaphy track is rated as one of the top ten great walks of new zealand. It covers 92km of the Kahurangi National Park. In order to get down to the start of the track, it took us 17 hours of bus rides and a four hour ferry ride...but it was worth it all the way. Der Heaphy Track liegt im Kahurangi National Park und ist 82 Km lang. In fünf Tagen, vom 16.12. bis zum 20.12. werden wir in Etappen von 16-24,5 Km unterwegs sein. Start und Ziel ist Nelson. Weitere Info gibt es hier: http://www.doc.govt.nz/templates/trackandwalk.aspx?id=36189 Und in Nelson sind wir gerade (Samstag). Bei der Ankunft, gestern, wurden wir durch das Aufsetzen der Maschiene auf der Bahn geweckt, da wir beide so muede waren, dass wir im Flieger von Auckland nach Nelson eigeschlafen sind- das war so gemuetlich zwischen den Propellern und den beiden quaekenden Kindern. Nach Abreise am Mittwoch und Ankunft am Feitag Nachmittag mit zwei Naechten im Flugzeug mit so was aehnlichem wie Schlafen plus Hong Kong, waren wir beide platt wie nie.
