789 days. That's two years, one month and twenty-eight days during which I was on one continuous journey, the longest stop of which was a mere 36 days. My adventure took me 83,161km, through approximately 231 towns, settlements, villages and cities in 53 different countries. It was, without any literal exaggeration, the journey of a lifetime. Back in Bali, the journey had now come down to the last flight. Well, three technically; Air Asia may have been the cheapest way to get back to Auckland but it meant flying away from my final destination for three hours to Kuala Lumpur before catching flights to first the Gold Coast, and then finally to Auckland. I thought maybe that I'd have a lot of emotions and feelings running through me as I boarded my last flight; that as ... read more

Lie Wei, Lie Yee, Jie Min and I travel to Auckland because we were invited by my cousin, Eva. Her Taiwanese homestay student's birthday was Saturday and she was throwing him a birthday party at her place. Since Lie Wei's birthday was also around that time, she decide it was going to be a joint birthday celebration. At the same time, we have been obsessed about going to the flea market in Avondale because of the super cheap fruits and veggies (NZ$1 for 8 apples!) there and we were so Asian that we needed to go to an Asian supermarket badly to buy Asian ingredients to cook and Whangarei is too ulu to have one. Eva cooked up a storm, "tau yew bak", curry prawns, two types of stir fried vege. She invited her two friends, ... read more

I am staying with my cousin, Eva while in Auckland. My companion in the house is her cute dog, Sam (of Bichon Frisse breed). He can be a bit of a noise when he decides to start barking, but otherwise he is pretty darn cute. He likes coming close to you and sitting on your lap.... read more

Had my first vaccination for my trip today - so exciting! A strange thing to say about a vaccination, I know, but I guess having it made the trip start to feel real. Packed up my little pack tonight when I got home. Not much space to fit enough to live with for six weeks! ... read more

Sweet as ay! 3 words to describe Natalie apart from the above are “crash bang and wallop”, what an amazingly friendly and funny gal!! We arrived in Auckland about midday hoping to be met by Natalie. We had been communicating via email after being introduced by a shared friend at Hearing Dogs UK. We had never met before and neither of us knew what to expect. Nath and I only knew the colour of her car and Natalie had only seen a picture of me from face book. It wasn’t difficult for us to find her though as we turned around to see a car screeching round the corner and pulling up at the bus stop. From that point on our lives had changed forever and for the better as we finally met the whirl wind ... read more

(P) At 6 a.m. I was called in for a second day of shooting for the TV advert (see previous entry) - the price of fame, huh? Jobs-wise, a temporary opportunity came up: I had an interview on Monday and started on Wednesday! Not standing at another bus stop on telly, but being part of the Stock Broking Operations Team at a securities firm, ASB (Auckland Savings Bank), inputting and reconciling share trades on behalf of clients. It is good to experience the other side of the stock exchange business, and although my stint has been extended, I don’t know whether it will turn permanent as yet… Incidentally, it is the first time I’ve worked for a non-Japanese employer for 10 years! I shall have to find another means of getting my Japan ‘fix’ ;) We ... read more
