Christmas eve - fish drive

the typical way to spend christmas eve here is to get in the sea with 100's of other villagers and catch some fish.
lots of fish........lots of fish........
lots of fish........

They catch them using a massive net made of coconut leaves. 100s of people in a giant ring, close in on the fish over a period of 5 hours and catch the christmas dinner.
time to go home.........time to go home.........

the fish drive happend on a little island just off the main resort. so how do all these islanders get back to their villages? they walk and swim - carrying the fish in sacks. Old women, Children and the entire village just walked straight in to the sea and swam away across a distance we would never even consider swimable! it took about 45mins to reach the other side. crazy people!(it doesn't look that far in this picture but it really was)
