Bula!!!Bula!!!Bula!!!

Look at this handsome couple!!!
We arrived in Fiji at 3am and was picked up by "Soloman the King" a very friendly yet eccentric taxi driver who took us down an un-made track for about 20 mins in the pitch black. Rich wondered where the hell he was taking us and had his buttocks firmly clenched as a precaution. However, there was nothing to fear and we turned up at Rendevous Surf & Dive Resort that just happens to be in the middle of nowhere. He had a home-made torch using the bottom of a thermos flask, a bulb, some plastic tubing and a kettle cord that helped us to safely find our room. We woke up the next morning to find that everything was normal and the other guests were really friendly. Rich went out on a boat to a reef just past Tavarua and the world famous Cloudbreak, hoping that the waves were not going to be too big! After a few scary sets, it turned out not to be too bad. Kerry went out on the boat as well and saw a shark swimming near the break but it was just a harmless white-tipped reef shark - she didn't know that at the

time!

We enjoyed our time there so much and the dive instructor Sharon was so nice that we decided to do our PADI open water scuba diving course. After a few hours of theory which resulted in a massive headache for Rich, we went in the pool to practice scuba diving skills. That's when we first realised that Rich is a sinker and Kerry is a floater!!! On our first day of diving we saw loads of really colourful fish and coral plus some eels but not Mark the Eel!!! On our second dive of the day we were hoping to see white-tipped reef sharks which are quite small and timid and just lay on the ocean floor resting as they feed at night. Instead we saw two rather big sharks (approx 2m long) that were checking us out rather closely. We thought these were the normal reef sharks so were quite relaxed and enjoyed the experience - until we surfaced and Sharon said that she nearly soiled her wetsuit as she has never seen this type of shark before and they were watching our every move. We were hoping she took a photo but she said that she

was too busy trying to figure out what to do if they attacked!!!

On our second day of diving we saw moray eels, two turtles, white-tipped reef sharks (thankfully only the little ones), a leopard shark (also usually harmless) and some amazing fish and coral. We passed our final exam and are now certified divers. Then we hired a car and drove to Raintree Lodge which is exactly like its name - lots of rain and lots of trees. We wanted to walk around the forest but unfortunately it was closed on a Sunday so we headed to the Coral Coast and picked up a few entertaining hitchhikers along the way. We refused to pick up anyone that was carrying a machete though obviously.

We arrived at The Beachouse for a night before we headed back up to Nadi. We were greeted with much enthusiasm as we were the first guests since the crew of Celebrity Love Island had cleared the resort a couple of weeks ago - there was 550 crew members. However, the whole set that the "celebrities" stayed in including the pool and love shack have been left there exactly as you saw on the

TV as it will be filmed there next year. So Kerry pretended to be a melodramatic supermodel and Rich was like a tanned love god as we frolicked in the Love Island pool!!!
