Edit Blog Post
To say we have been tardy in updating our blog would be an understatement...however, given the fact that we FINALLY got our internet hooked up this will soon change!
There are so many updates since our last post but the following are some of the highlights:
1) We are now both employed! I secured a 3 month contract with an HR services company (The ORS Group) acting as coordinator for their tender team. I started Aug 17th, the first week was slow however the job went from O to 60 today as the bid to tender commenced. The opportunity was better than any temp work I expected to find, the best part is that it is literally a 5 min walk from our apartment and there is talk that they will most likely extend my contract when it ends. Eric started his job today as recruitment consultant for Ambit Engineering. This is different than anything he has done before (primarily sales oriented) but a great learning experience none the less. Eric is relieved to have started work (turns out he didn't like being a stay-at-home husband!) and the company has said they will sponsor him with a visa in
3 months. This is great news for both of us, provides Eric with job security and gives me the opportunity to work anywhere I like for as long as I want.
2) Through the wonderful world of internet we found out that an old University friend of Eric's is currently living with his Fiance in Perth. Mike and Rita have since become good friends of ours; from checking out the local live music scene during the week to cooking fabulous seafood dinners on the weekend....these two have been fantastic in helping us stay positive during the toughest times of our job search!
They also share a love of travel (obvious I guess) and we are already planning a trip to Bali in October!
3) We planned our first trip to Margaret River (equivalent to Niagara-on-the-Lake but on a much bigger scale) for the long weekend in September. September is whale watching season on the south west coast and aside from visiting wineries, we plan to do some of this too.
4) Footy (Australian Rules Football). We took in our first Footy game yesterday in a suburb of Perth called Subiaco with Mike, Rita & Spicer. We had
decent seats and watched as the local underdog (Fremantle) beat Essendon. To say Auzzie's are into their Footy is a drastic understatement, we found ourselves amid crazy fans and had never heard such a loud crowd...it was great!
5) A few weeks before we started work we visited the Perth Zoo where we took in all the wildlife Australia has to offer...check out some of the pictures!
6) We signed up at the local gym and managed to wheel & deal our way into a discounted price thanks to a girl we met from Oakville..Missy! Missy is a fitness instructor and is also doing the work/travel thing. Eric ordered a smoothie one day at the local Java Juice where Missy was working and she was quick to pick out his accent...she is a ball of energy and awesome to hang out with.
7) We went to see P!nk in concert...or rather I dragged Eric with me. The tickets were a wedding present from Eric and it was a great concert....the girl can sing.
This pretty much sums up the past few weeks in a nutshell. The weather is steadily getting warmer here by the week, still
only an avg of 15-20 during the day but if the sun is out...it feels much hotter. Along with the good weather we hope to plan more trips to the coast to get in some surfing, beach time, dolphin swimming and a trip to Rottnest Island (beach/snorkeling haven to the locals).
We will keep the updates coming, till then...

How come you find a way to enjoy board games (Connect 4) in Aussie land, but can indulge the old man a simple game of scrabble back home?
