Big 4 rewarded us
with the flowers, wine and fuel voucher for having 50 stamps in our passport. Hi all
We arrived at Carnarvon Big 4 Caravan Park on Sunday to a special welcome. We'd sent our Big 4 passport to Melbourne a month ago, as we'd qualified for a special reward as we had 50 different camping ground stamps. We had arranged for it to be mailed back to us at Carnarvon. We were the first to get 50 different stamps, and expected a T shirt, but we also got a $150 fuel voucher, flowers and a bottle of good red wine! Our photos were taken, so I guess we might appear on their rewards website.
Carnarvon is a surprise after a boring drive with nothing much to see from Coral Bay. There is lots of market gardening and cropping - bananas, mango, avocardo, tomatoes, capsicums, corn etc are growing alongside the dry River Gascoyne. It's also a fishing port, we saw 15 fishing boats tied up on Sunday afternoon. Prawns, squid, scallops and fish are for sale from the wharf, and there's also lots of roadside stalls for fruit and vegetables.
Before Carnarvon we spent 3 nights at Coral Bay, which we loved. We snorkelled and swam each day and walked on the lovely white sand beaches.

at the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct One day we went out on the coral bay Ecotour boat, we snorkelled on the reef and swam with the mantarays, and saw turtles popping their heads up and swimming around us. Unfortunately it was blowing 20knots +, the sea was choppy with not very good visability the day we were out, with strong currents, so snorkelling was difficult! But it was well worth it. Lots of colourful and different coral and fish. BUT we found out we are not as snorkelling fit as we used to be - the young backpackers on board managed longer in the water than us!! (we snorkelled 3 different places) The water was 21 degrees, so a bit cool and the wind was cold when we got out. We used one of their short arm and leg wetsuits, but it was quite thin. But still a great day. Another day we drift snorkelled off the beach, drifting down with the current over the colourful coral reef. There are lots of fish, some quite big, as they are fed there each day. We even saw a wedding on the beach on Saturday, they got married in knee deep water!!
Now we are below the Tropic

looking over One Mile Jetty with the little train we rode on of Capricorn , the weather has changed a bit. Not as hot, more cloud at times and windy. We are told September and October are the windiest months here. At least it keeps the flies away!
We're having haircuts this afternoon, first time since Darwin, so a bit overdue! There are quite a few day trips out and about from Carnarvon, so we're not sure when we will move on from here yet.
Cheers lynne and Chris

We're just about to hit 20!
Well done for getting 50, that's excellent news and brilliant that the prize is so fitting - fuel!! Great to see you're having such a good time. We're about to make the drive into WA in the next couple of days so we're getting ourselves ready for some serious heat!!! Will we ever catch you up? Only if you're still in Perth in November!!! Take care Dar and Sar
