Hi all
We are now back at Carnarvon, after spending 10 days at very pretty and under rated Pt Quobba, (80kms nw of Carnarvon). We camped just south of the blowhole, at a free park beside a white sand ocean beach. It reminded us of Baylys Beach, going to bed listening to the surf pounding in. There is a lagoon nearby, behind a coral island and reef that has very good fish and coral, so we snorkelled there some days. Unfortunately, other days the wind was brisk and cool. We saw lots of whales, some quite close to the shore, some jumping right out of the water, some flapping their fins and blowing. At times they looked like windsurfer's sails, flopping down into the water and back up.
One day we drove up a 4WD track another 70kms each way through Quobba Station to remote Gnaraloo Station, and snorkelled up there also. It's at the south end of the Ningaloo Reef. We visited Red Bluff, where lots of surfers were camped in tents and camper trailers.
Pt Quobba was not too busy for a long weekend and school holidays too. There is about 3kms of track with camping spots all along.
There are also 42 shacks, very basic baches! We were given some mullaway fish fillets by one neighbour. Some were catching fish from the beach, but we didn't try - too cold in the wind!! (Are we getting soft?) We met a couple from Perth, travelling in their airstream US imported aluminium motorhome (like Paris Hilton had in the TV series!). They have 6 acres near the airport in Perth, and have offered us storage for our van and car when we return to NZ this summer, which is great!
Today we are catching up with "jobs" after being out of range and conserving water - washing, Chris is cleaning the car yet again after the dusty tracks, etc. I'm listening to a lady singing to her ipod earphones as she vacuums and cleans her car nearby as I type this!!
Tomorrow we head south, taking pot luck for a few days, and are booked into Denham from Thursday for 3 nights so we can explore the area including Monkey Mia, where the tame dolphins are. We will stay in the recommended most westerly caravan park in Australia.
Cheers Lynne and Chris

Hi Lynne and Chris, what a great place you have just visited. The beaches look beautiful and super to see the whales in so close like that. Good to see you are getting some 4x4 driving in too. How awesome that you have been offered a place to leave your vehicles at Perth. Where do you plan to be for your birthday on the 10th Lynne ?? We hope you have a very happy day wherever you are, we will be thinking of you. We are off to Christchurch today for a few days. The temperatures are VERY cold down there, and there has also been lots of snow in central Nth Island. Am packing the thermals!! Are you sure you want to come home????!!!!
Hey Chris,
What all this about washing the vehicle all the time. Sounds like you are becoming as bad as me!
Cheers,
Allen
Hi guys, we get NZ news headlines on the computer - it automatically goes to that page before we switch off. Sounds like there has been lots of snow this year. Have A & M been skiing? We always look at the Auckland temperatures too! Not missing the cold! Enjoy Chch. We will still be in Denham on Sat 10th, so will try to go out for dinner. Cheers Lynne and Chris
Yes, but you should see how dirty we can get the car!!
Have you been skiing this year, seems there is lots of snow. Cheers L & C
Carl and I just got back from a business/holiday in Fiji. Five days of beautiful warm weather while Auckland apparently has had some really cold weather. My best wishes Lynne for a wonderful birthday wherever you might be. As always, ENJOY the good life! Cheers, Susi
We are now at Denham for 3 days in Shark Bay, lovely campsite on a white sand beach. Going out on a "aqua rush" a high speed inflatable to the most western point in Australia on Saturday, my birthday. Hopefully we will get to see lots of wildlife, whales, turtles, dugongs and birds etc. This completes the 4 corners of Australia for us, we've done Cape York,(north), Byron Bay(east), and Tasmania's southernmost point. Glad you escaped the cold for a short time, we heard there was a lot of snow around in the middle of the N.Is. Give my regards to the other golfers - would love to watch Viv play Ra - that will be interesting. Cheers Lynne
