Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3
This will be our last Blog update from Mallacoota ??? as we plan to head up the east coast towards Sydney from Wednesday 2nd July. Our time here in Mallacoota has been one of God's special gifts to us. We came here on our first BCA stop not knowing what to expect but in total trust that God was in control. We have met some great Christian friends especially the Revd. Roger Jackman and his wife Suzanne, the Revd. John Grace and his wife Yvonne and Maureen who's house and dogs we looked after. We also participated in great Christian fellowship both during the Sunday services at St Peters and during our Tuesday Bible discussion group. While working on our tasks as St Peters we also met several Grey Nomads who were in Mallacoota as part of their travels. They called in to see the Church, had a chat and if they could would attend a Sunday service. We are finding that our Christian network expands in unexpected ways - and we thank God for these connections.
The physical work
New Sign for St Peters
This is only the proof more photos once the sign is erected we have been fortunate to do has given us the opportunity, from God, to use gifts that we never knew we had. It was great to complete the tasks to the satisfaction of Revd Roger and the St Peters congregation. We shall miss them all.
We now head towards Sydney before driving down the Hume Highway towards Albury.
For what we have received we give thanks. For what is to come we say "YES" At this stage we plan, God willing, to be back in Hasting early to mid-September.
On another issue, back on
7th March 2014 in our Blog update
'Goodbye, Farwell and a BIG Thank You’ we mentioned that after our final service at St Chads the congregation made us a gift of the Sunday offering and we were to use it on a BCA project that we were involved in. Well after talking to Revd. Roger and the congregation at St Chad's we have used the money on a new sign for the front of St Peters Church. The sign looks fantastic and has a notation along the bottom: -
"Donated by the congregation of St Chads, Boningale Albrighton, Eastern Spinebill
A Visitor near the kitchen window at the Manse UK - Friends in Christ"
Week 8 started on
Saturday 21st June and what a way to start with great weather. Fine, warm, sunny and 17 degrees. Who said this was winter???????
We headed to St Peters to finish the work on the Foyer Cupboard and the outside Facia. Our work is slowly coming to an end with only one task remaining, replacing/ fixing the bench seat on the front lawn of the Church, a seat we have spent many morning and afternoon teas and lunch times over looking God’s wonderful creation.
Sunday 22nd June and we attended the 9.00am service at St Peters where Jess read the second reading
'Romans 6 : 1-11'. We also had four visitors at Church, two couples in Mallacoota for the week on holidays, another opportunity to distribute Bob Collies prayer Sticks, thanks Bob.
On Sunday evening we had invited Revd. Roger and his wife Suzanne and Maureen to tea at the Manse as a thank you for the meals they had included us in. It was a great night of friendship and Christian fellowship - They are three very special friends.
Monday 23rd June was another
mild day and we tackled the second facia that needed replacing. However due to the downpipe being fixed to the facia and the outlet concreted into the drain we decided to repair the bottom of the post instead of replacing it. Monday afternoon and Evelyn headed into the Op Shop for the 1 - 3 shift and Roger and Jess repaired the bench seat on the front lawn, another task finished.
Tuesday 24th June we had a quiet morning at the Manse before heading to our final Bible discussion group. We continued with our format of starting with prayer and as today we celebrate the birth of St John the Baptist Evelyn read a 'Prayer of Saint John the Baptist'. We then listened to another modern hymn from Keith & Kristyn Getty 'The Power of the Cross' (A very moving and inspiring hymn). Our Gospel passage for discussion was
'Mathew 10 : 24 - 29' which was followed by discussion centred around what Jesus said "Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to being peace, but a sword" and what our interpretation was of this and how it connected with
our lives, past and present. We then ended with prayers and an opportunity to light a candle. These sessions, although only small in number, have been large in spiritual fulfilment and we thank God for the opportunity he gave us.
Wednesday 25th June was another fine sunny but windy morning although temperatures had started to dip, only going to be 15 degrees and large snow falls were being reported in the ski fields not to far away. We headed to St Peters to put the final touches to our tasks and start to pack up the tools and consumables we had used. Evelyn completed her final 1pm to 3pm shift at the Op Shop, something she has thoroughly enjoyed especially the opportunity to meet so many new people.
Thursday 26th June and again another sunny but windy morning and as our tasks at St Peters have now almost been completed, although we have to replace the concrete on the two downpipes we had to move in order to replace/fix the facia, we had a nice relaxing time. The afternoon proved to be even better weather wise so we took a walk along Betka beach where we were
joined by a couple of Pied Oystercatchers. After the walk along the beach we headed down the 'Betka River Loop'. This is only a 2 klm walk that follows the Betka river before crossing the road at 'Point Difficult Lookout' then back along the coast line to Betka Beach. A great walk with amazing contrasts between river and coast.
Our only set task today,
Friday 27th June was to issue this weekly Blog and then starts to re pack the caravan ready for our departure.
This Sunday, which is the 5th Sunday, will be an ecumenical service which will include the Anglican, Uniting, Catholic & Pentecostal congregations. The service will be held at 4.30pm and Evelyn has been asked to be one of three people saying prayers. This will be our last service at St Peters and the service will be followed by dinner at the local hotel, a special way to finish.
On Wednesday we have been invited for dinner at Roger and Suzanne’s, a great opportunity to say goodbye to our very special friends.
