Watching for the Kingfisher Prayer is like watching for the Kingfisher. All you can do is be where he is likely to appear, and wait. Often, nothing much happens; there is space, silence and expectancy. No visible sign, only the knowledge that he's been there, and may come again. Seeing or not seeing cease to matter, you have been prepared. But sometimes, when you've almost stopped expecting it, a flash of brightness gives encouragement. Our last week in Mallacoota started on
Saturday 27th June. All of the news reports had mentioned very cold and very windy conditions however here in Mallacoota it was fine and sunny with the top temp expected to be 17 degrees. After spending some time watching the local bird life we headed off from the Manse on a walk along part of the 'Mallacoota Coastal Walk'. The walk although only 4 klms was towards Betka Beach through part of the state forest.
At the entrance to the walk we encountered a mob of Kangaroos two with Joey's in their pouches. The walk was fairly easy and well signposted. When we reached the part of the track that crossed Betka road
The new sign at St Peters
A big thank you to the congregation at St Chads, Boningale, Albrighton UK we headed along the bitchemen, down the hill and of course back up the other side. It was a great walk. We then headed to the main street along the foreshore and then back to the Manse. A walk of approx 2 hours in total.
Sunday 29th June was a 4.30pm Ecumenical service at St Peters, a service of reflection and encouragement. Evelyn was asked to say Intercession prayers for Peace and Country and Jess was asked to read the psalm, Psalm 27, this was very special for our last service at St Peters. The service was very special and attended by around 35 people from the Anglican, United, Catholic and Pentecostal congregation. Towards the end of the service we were invited out to the front where we were given the opportunity to say something, recieve a gift from the congregation and Revd. Roger then prayed for us and for our continuing Journey of Faith.
After the service we met Jeanie & Ralph Bonner from Goulburn. They have a holiday house in Mallacoota and they are past BCA Nomads. Jeanie & Ralph had worked at St Peters painting the kitchen. It was great to talk to them and
Birthday cake for Jess
Thank you Suzanne & Roger they suggested we call in and see the BCA Outpost at Red Cliff near Mildura where help is always required and also call in to see them in Goulburn should we have time when we pass by that way.
After the service about 18 people from the service went to the Mallacoota Hotel for dinner. We had a great night and it was a great way to say goodbye to most of the people we had met during our 9 weeks in Mallacoota.
Monday 30th June was a re packing of the caravan day ready for Wednesday morning and even the wild life seemed to come and say goodbye, King Parrots, Rosella's, Katie Kookaburra, even a Southern Boobook Owl (sadly no camera when he arrived) and of course our regular mob of Kangaroos. Living among so many of God's wonderful creatures has been truly amazing.
We then headed for the Op Shop to hand in the key and say a goodbye to Jean the Op Shop co-ordinator before meeting Revd. Roger at the Church in the afternoon to help erect the new Church sign donated by St Chads Boningale Albrighton, UK. The sign looks great and is
a good way to twin the Churches.
Tuesday 1st July saw us cleaning the Manse ready for it's next occupants, whoever and whenever that may be. Tuesday night we had been invited for dinner at Roger & Suzannes to say a final farewell and celebrate Jess's birthday. It was a great night as Roger cooked us a wonderful meal and Suzanne had organised a cake, Wow God keeps expanding our Christian circle with people who become such dear friends.
Wednesday 2nd July and as expected we were up early, packed the final items into the caravan and car, hooked up and set off back to the Princes Highway turning right towards Sydney. The weather forcast was for a mild sunny day and it did not disappoint.
We had decided that we would take our time as we have no planned time frame and wherever we were around 2.00pm we would look to stop the night. We drove through Eden where we encountered our first Lyerbird as it ran out in front of the car accross the highway, another bird to tick off in the book.
We stopped at Bega for a break and coffee before driving
on through the Bega valley eventually stopping at the 'Bodalla Forest Park' where we enjoyed our lunch in a sunny and quiet setting. This park is approx. 40 klms south of Moruya so we decided that after some 260 klms Moruya would be a good point to stop and so we booked into the 'Riverbreeze Caravan Park' right on the banks of the Moruya River and they had a drive through site, so no reversing required!!!!!
The park is in a lovely setting only 10 minutes walk to the centre of town. No Kangaroos or Kookaburra's but an outlook over a cattle farm surrounded by hills.
As we indicated previously we are in no hurry so we booked in for 3 nights to relax and enjoy God's gifts.
On
Thursday 3rd July After a very foggy and misty night we awoke to a clear but very cold morning, only 3 degrees. Before long however the sun was shinning and we were able to enjoy breakfast outside, and this is July????
After breakfast we walked into Moruya to have a look at the old buildings and of course take a look at the Anglican Church 'The Church
of St John Evangelist'. Unfortunatly the church, built in 1891 was not open.
The rest of the day was spent relaxing in the sun and walking along the river taking in the sites and sound.
Friday 4th July was a repeat of Thursday, cold night but sunny day and again we relaxed and enjoyed our surroundings, caught up with some washing (thanks Mavis and the HT Op Shop ladies) before starting to pack up the caravan and car ready to move on tomorrow towards Sydney. We have no plans as to how far along the coast we will get. We may get to Sydney we may not it just depends on where God leads us.
