Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
On
Friday 4th July we took a final relaxing walk around Moruya before we started to pack up the caravan and car as we wanted to be on our way just after breakfast.
So on
Saturday 5th July we hooked up the caravan and said goodbye to Moruya, a lovely relaxing little spot. We travelled along the Princes Highway eventually stopping at Ulladulla for a coffee. Most of these places we have heard of but never seen and Ulladulla was again a good surprise. Coffee overlooking the boat harbour and harbour entrance and of course the pelicans. After coffee we walked to St Martins Anglican Church and had a look at the Book Sale. St Martins have a permanent Christian book shop within their complex.
We had planned to have Nowra as our next stop however being Evelyn & Jess we missed the turn for the caravan park and before we new it we were heading out of Nowra so we decided to drive to the next
town that had a caravan park.
This turned out to be Gerringong a great little place wedged between the mountains and the ocean and approx. 160 klms from Moruya. We booked into the Werri Beach Holiday park for two nights.
Sunday 6th July and we were off to St George's Anglican Church to attend the 10.00am Family Service. As the Church building is small and so not family friendly, difficult for prams etc., the 8.00am Communion service is held in the Church however the 10.00am family service is held in the Church hall. The service was a modern service with modern hymns accompanied by two guitarists, an electronic organ plus two adult singers. There was even a very small boy playing his toy guitar who was on stage, very sweet. There were approx. 50 people in the congregation including some children who went out to Sunday school.
The Minister, Andrew Glover, gave a great sermon based on the days readings Ephesians 1 : 1-14, Spiritual Blessings and Acts 2 : 22-41. During the service it was announced that 'Welcoming' training sessions would be held over the next 4 Sunday afternoons. We then listened to the introduction DVD.
Even without these sessions the congregation is a very very welcoming congregation. After the service was the traditional morning tea where we had many opportunities to meet members of the congregation including their BCA representative.
During one of these conversations when we were explaining what we were doing and where we were heading, we mentioned that we intended go through Holbrook NSW at some stage to hopefully meet up with the BCA people. A member of the congregation said that St George's sent clothes to the Holbrook Op Shop and that the regular person who delivers the clothes was unavailable, could we help out. Only one answer
YES, no wonder we missed the caravan park at Nowra!!!!!!!
Monday 7th July and it was time once again to pack up the caravan and car and head off. We have previously mentioned that we were heading for Sydney however God has changed our plans and we believe that the reason for this change is that there is no BCA need for us to be in Sydney, He has directed us to head towards Yass via Goulburn NSW. So we did, we headed along the Princes Highway through Kiama to Wollongong
and then along Picton Road to the Hume Motorway and eventually after travelling 200 klms from Gerringong we reached Goulburn for 2 nights at the Goulburn South Caravan Park. Our first visit was to the 'Big Merino' a large cement structure that houses wool displays and a gift shop.
Tuesday 8th July was a very very very cold start to the day. We awoke to a one degree morning and a promise that it may reach ten degrees.
IT WAS COLD. After breakfast we donned our woolly hats, our gloves and our coats and headed for the centre of Goulburn. We went to see the Gothic Revival Catholic Cathedral Church of St Peter & Paul which is undergoing refurbishment and was opened in 1890.
We then headed for the Anglican Cathedral Church of St Saviour built between 1874 and 1884 and as the Cathedral was not open we could call back and attend the 12 noon Holy Communion service. The service was held in a side chapel with a congregation of 3. The service was led by the Dean, The Very Revd. Phillip Saunders. These small services are very special and we thank God for the opportunity of
participating.
After the service the Dean asked us who we were and about our travels and was very accommodating in explaining the history of the Cathedral to us including the stained glass windows, there are 23 of them all made in Australia, the Foster and Andrews organ and the Chapel of St Michael and St George - commonly called the 'Soldiers Chapel' as it is dedicated to those from the Diocese who lost their lives in the Great war of 1914-1918 it also houses the last flag to be used during a charge in battle by the Light Horse Regiment.
Wednesday 9th July and once again we packed up and hooked up the caravan this time heading towards Yass some 82 klms away. Only a short drive as we had arranged to meet up with Helena Painting who works for BCA in the Yass area and lives at Bookham some 30 klms south of past Yass.
Thursday 10th July and we headed south along the Hume Highway towards Bookham and Deepwater, the property owned by Doug & Helena Painting. Helena is a Schools Worker through BCA and works with young people in schools and small communities surrounding
Yass including running the youth group at St Clements.
We arrived at the Deepwarter property to a very warm welcome from Helena who, as we were talking whipped up a great batch of scones, YUM. Helena & Doug extend a warm welcome to everyone who visits there farm especially the youth in the Yass area where they can enjoy fellowship and horse riding. While we were there one young lady was staying overnight and riding/caring for horses. One young lady arrived to ride the horses and a young lady arrived with her baby for a visit. Helena & Doug are very special people and very special to the Yass community.
After tea and scones Doug took us on a tour around the property in his ute, they have 4,000 head of sheep, mainly Merino’s and 150 head of cattle. It's a great property of some 1,850 acres with fantastic scenery and views. After the tour we enjoyed a great lunch before saying goodbye and heading back towards Yass.
While we were at Helena's she contacted Revd. Ken Rampling the Vicar at St Clements Anglican Church in Yass. They are about to start refurbishing some old books cases
in order to start a Christian Book Shop in the Church hall. The bookcases needed sanding back so that they can be repainted. Given our new found skills obtained in Mallacoota we volunteered to help out. We will start this work on
Friday 11th July.
So at this stage we will be staying in Yass until at least
Monday 14th July and we will be able to attended the 10.00am Sunday family service at St Clements with Helena & Doug.
God has been so good to us and through the special Christian people we have met on our journey our circle expands as we meet many many more Christian people through the people we meet. It is an ever expanding circle of friendship through Christ.
