Days 1 and 2 were of course spent within the confines of a mixture of aiports and the Emirates 737 boeing and 840 airbus! We arrived at Birmingham airport with plenty of time to spare before our 14:15 flight .... we were there by 10:15 on Day 1! Just aswell because although we were first in line for check in (that is the Howells way!) our cases were a tad over weight, as was the hand luggage (which they did weigh!) so we did a little bit of re-arranging, parted with an additional 35GPB and we were on our way to the departure lounge after a short stop off for coffee and sandwiches with Mum and Dad Kettle. Very strange saying goodbye to Mum and Dad at the gates, we're so grateful to them for everything that they're doing for us. We went through security with no problem or fuss and were able to dash round getting perfume for Anna, No. 7 for Daph and an Australia Lonely Planet guide for us!
The Emirates flight was great. Well fed and watered on leg one with loads of films to watch and much to our delight a 'downward' and 'forward' view camera from the plane! Great fun and Darryl was going nuts over that!! The chap who was supposed to sit next to us decided to move because the plane wasn't full so we had plenty of room - always a bonus!
Our arrival in Dubai was WOW - it's an amazing sky line to fly in to. The bus journey from the plane to the main terminal wasn't traumatic although it is a 20 minute bus ride followed by quite a trek across the airport! The wait for the connecting flight was short & sweet too and the 2nd leg to Melbourne of 13hrs was soon apon us but again the plane wasn't full so we moved around to get ourselves plenty of room!
Arriving at Melbourne just before 10pm it seemed that no sooner had Darryl gone off to find the cases he was back with them totally intact and we were off to customs! We were careful to declare anything 'iffy' to comply with the regulations .. 1 wooden table tennis bat and 4 jars of marmite passed with flying colours!!
We were met by Aunty Daph, who no sooner had we done the hugs declared that she was just off to find a copy of the Guardian and disappeared off up the elevator!!! We heard a beep from a car outside and Grant (Sarah's cousin) was out the front of the airport and we were back at The Adams house in Box Hill North meeting their new doggie addition Henry before midnight!
So here we are drinking VB and chatting about what we need to get done over the next couple of days ... there's already an outing to the footie planned for Saturday!
Thanks again for all the messages, it only feels like we've come away for a couple of weeks at the moment .... I think that will change when we get the 4WD and the caravan!!
Love to all
Darryl & Sarah
