Federation Square
I know this is like the 20th picture I've taken of it, but I just think it's so cool! Well hello from a dark Melbourne, Australia...yes, it's only shortly after 5 pm here on Saturday!
The last few days have been filled with some excitement, some exploring of new territory and a whole lot of laughing and memory making!
I woke up yesterday, but got to sleep in because I didn't have class. I hopped on the 11:40 train down to Flinders Street to meet up with Theresa and Hector. There is a Pixar Exhibit that they have here at the Australian Center for the Moving Image which is in Federation Square, so we decided we would meet up and go there for the afternoon. Well, there was no sign of Hector (who we later found out had forgotten but ended up meeting up with us), so Theresa and I went to lunch hoping that Hector would call us back. We went to a little cafe and I got some spring rolls which were VERY good! During lunch, Hector called to say he was on his way so we all met up again and headed to the exhibit. Outside of the museum, they have the Pixar lamp and ball that is so famous in all of their movies
Pixar
The lamp and ball outside of the Pixar Exhibit set-up outside. So, of course, we got PLENTY of pictures taken with the lamp and ball (some of which are included). Then, we headed inside to the exhibit, paid our concession price (student price) and headed off to see what was inside. Unfortunately, you were not allowed to take pictures inside the actual exhibit, but I guess that's okay. It was full of sketches, clay models, etc. of the characters, story boards and 3-D animations from all of their famous Pixar movies- Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, Toy Story, The Incredibles, A Bugs Life, and Cars. It was really cool and I got to get my picture taken with the a car from Cars as well as Mike and Sully from Monsters, Inc.
From there, we headed to McDonalds and got some ice cream before hopping back on a train toward campus. (I LOVE the public transport system..by the way!) We got off the train and headed to the SwinMates social at The Hawthorn (a bar). SwinMates is like a mentor program where they set-up a local student with each of the exchange students as a point of contact/buddy/etc. Well, we were there for like 3 hours and mine had
Monsters, Inc.
The Pixar Exhibit we went to not shown up (even though I had emailed her and she said she'd be there), but I had plenty of time to get to meet other people's SwinMates. There is one girl, Stef, who is TOTALLY into musicals and Harry Potter, etc. like I am...into HP more than I, but that's okay. So, we decided that when Hairspray comes out here, we are going to go see it together and when High School Musical 2 comes out on Disney, I'm going over to her house to have a party and watch it with her! I'm pretty pumped about that! She studied at Baylor in TX with Craig and Tom last semester and seems really cool! Then, right as we were getting ready to leave, my SwinMate, Brittany shows up saying she thought it was much later. She talked my ear off for like an hour as we talked about everything under the sun. Guess what?! She's an organization freak too! She loves planners, high liters, etc. just as much as I do! Perfect match if you ask me. She is going to study in Japan next semester as an exchange student...she is studying International Business and Japanese here. After talking
Monsters, Inc.
Me with Mike and Sully to her for a while, Theresa and I headed back to my apartment where we met up with Jorai and I made a delicious dinner of Mac-n-cheese and potatoes! Jorai and Akyako LOVED the Velveet Mac-n-cheese that I made...but then again, who wouldn't?! Thanks for mailing that mom...it's delicious!
After that, Tom and Craig came over and we all began on the festivities for a while before heading out to the West Building to meet up with a bunch of other people. We hung out there for a while, enjoying ourselves and decided we wanted to head down to the city to a bar for a while. So, we ran to train station to catch the 11:14 train to Flinders and barely made it in time (as some of us were not in the correct state to be running). We got down to the city and went a bar called 6 Links where Jorai knew one of the bartenders so we got drinks for about $1.50. But, before I could begin enjoying that the night began to catch up Theresa and I spent the next hour and a half with her and Tomiko in the bathroom giving her cold
Cathedral
The cathedral down in the city rags, flusing the toilet and all the fun things a girl does for the other one when that happens. After Theresa was feeling up to it, we all ran to the tram location so we could catch the last tram back to campus. We got back, I got Theresa situated on my couch and then we all went to bed.
I woke up this afternoon (totally missed the morning) and went down to Crazy John's (an electronics store) to get my Australian cell phone. It's ridiculous how skinny and small it is! I wasn't going to get one because I really wanted to not have to worry about it, but I was missing out on so much stuff by not having one. Everyone is communicating via cell phones, etc. and while they had my "room" number, I'm not here often (in class, running errands, etc.) and so if they called and I wasn't here, I missed whatever they were going to do...so I broke down and got one. Now, I'm just sitting here typing this up, uploading photos from last night and thinking about what we all might like to do tonight. Probably somthing low-key after all of the

Before we headed over to the South Building excitement last night.
Well, I'm off to get things situated for this evening! I hope you're all doing well and having as much fun back at home as I am here! Love you all...g'day mates!
