Derwent River
New Norfolk - this river is beside our campsite here, about 30 min north of Hobart. Hi everyone
We are still loving Tasmania.
After 2 nights in Waratah, we drove to Zeehan for 2 nights. Zeehan has a very interesting museum on mining in the area. We did lots of exploring around the area, drove through an old train tunnel with so little clearance the mirrors of the car nearly scraped the sides, to an old silver mine, and did some 4WD tracks. We drove to the coast to Trial Bay and to Granite Harbour, over rough metal roads, both very rugged areas with little shelter for boats. (We are really enjoying our sahara landcruiser for this ).
Next we drove down to Strahan for 2 nights. We did a very good cruise on a lovely day on the Macquarie Harbour, going right out into the open sea through the narrow entrance, and then down the Gordon River.
We then headed east, over hilly windy roads, stopping in Queenstown, a copper mining town for a look around , then on to a lovely $5 campsite at Lake Burbury. Chris got to go out on the lake in a tinny with some friends we keep meeting along this part of our trip. They also enjoy exploring out of
social time last night
Chris with Jane and Ron, Sue and Hardy at our campsite at New Norfolk. the way areas (they've done the Simpson desert and Cape York too), we keep meeting them on the 4WD tracks!
We then headed south east, not able to stay where planned as most sites full (including Hamilton, Linda), so headed on down to New Norfolk. We are spending 4 nights here (we have since found out it's a long weekend in Tasmania so that's why everything is full). The first night we spent in the paddock next door to the campsite (overflow area), but now we have a powered site. Our friends turned up yesterday (not prearranged!), so they are now in the overflow area! We have done some trips out of here, west to Strathgordon and the 2 dams in that area, the Mount Field National Park, and saw the Russell and Lady Barron Falls, we had a quick visit to the salmon farm before it closed, and yesterday we spent the day in Hobart at the Wooden Boat Festival, which was very good. We walked around in the drizzel, but there were over 400 boats in the water, and another 100 or so out on the dock area. We saw 2 kiwi boats, thought there would have been
Wooden Boat Festival, Hobart
Over 400 boats in the water, 100 boats out of the water. It drizzeled most of the day. more! Lots of lovely wooden crafted dinghys and row boats.
We had a social time last night with Sue and Hardy (who have the tinny), and our neighbours here, so today we are having a quieter day, did washing, shopping etc and Chris checked the bearings etc in the van wheels.
Tomorrow we will move on south of Hobart, probably to Snug.
Cheers Lynne and Chris

Great sights
Some amazing sights and experiences . I'm glad you got out to Hell's Gate with its awful tidal rip. Hope you enjoy the D'Entrecasteaux area. Love the photos. Thanks for email too. X
