Dove Lake
We walked around this lake today at Cradle Mountain National Park. Hi everyone
We came over to Tasmania on Saturday and are really enjoying it here.
After 2 nights at Ulverstone, on the north coast near Devonport, where our ferry came in, we then travelled to Stanley, in the NW corner of Tasmania. Stanley is an interesting fishing village , with lots of history. We spent 3 nights there, and did day trips with the car to Arthur River and the "Edge of the World", on the west coast, which had amazing scenery - red rocks and rough west coast breakers coming in to the river mouth and bar. We also went inland to Dip Falls, and through forest to the Big Tree. In Stanley we caught the chairlift up "The Nut", which rises 152 meters above the ground, and walked around on the top, where mutton birds come in to nest. We visited Highfield, a colonial house used by the van Dieman's Land Company, still going today. We ticked off several more lighthouses, and loved the white sandy beaches, although the water was cold.
From Stanley , we headed south to Waratah yesterday, where we have spent 2 nights at a rustic council camping ground (with free washing machine - all
Ulverstone Beach
We walked on this beach night and morning. The campsite was right on the beach. clothes , sheets, towels etc now clean!) Waratah is a tin mining town, has been the most prosperous in the Southern Hemisphere, and is now being reworked. They even have a fossicking area we found today, so we have a few rocks!
Today we were up early, and drove to Cradle Mountain, nearby, a pretty area in the national park. We walked around Lake Dove, a 2 hour walk, but it got very hot the 2nd half with no shade and about 35 degrees. (We read on the net tonight, Tasmania recorded it's hottest temperature ever today!)
Tomorrow we head further south, to Zeehan and then on to Strahan on the west coast for a few days.
The roads here are much like NZ roads, get off the beaten track and they are windy and often metal.
Thanks to everyone sending us comments and messages, we love hearing from you, but can't always respond individually.
Cheers Lynne and Chris

Hi
Carl and I went to Tasmania a couple of years ago and loved it. It felt more like New Zealand, than Australia, to us. Looking forward to seeing you when you are back for your visit.
