It's a lovely corner of the world...
Well its been nearly 2 weeks from last blog entry........... so TODAY is 35 days/5 weeks until the day we leave....

Walking is ... spasmodic really - Diane is far more diligent than I in walking almost daily.... I went to Christies with the goal of a couple of solid walking days.... and forgot my boots! Or running shoes - all I had was sandals - so a little cursory beach walking was all that occurred THAT weekend ...... and I STILL haven't fully packed the backpack to check weight etc.... I am waiting for a plug in coil water heater- bought on Ebay ( for quick cuppas before heading off in the dawn light )...... will we actually NEED it?? I dont know - on the forums many say its a 'don't leave home without' item....... others say used it twice - dont bother......

On the PLUS side we now have the CRUISE TICKETS..... AND are booked in for the first and second Alburgues ( the Pilgrim Hostel/Refugee that are all along 'The Way'😉

The first one is in St Jean Pied de Port... at the bottom of france and is called L'Esprit du Chemin http://www.espritduchemin.org/English/welcome.html ...such

a friendly warm reply to my request for a reservation -
"Hello Jacqui and Diane from Australia,Welcome to “L’Esprit du Chemin”!Great that you'll do the camino. Do not worry about the connections it's all very small comparing to your country ;-) So Biarritz airport is like a busstation, Bayonne Gare nice and small, a lovely trainride ... and then after all seven minutes walking! We're looking forward to meet you. So: we made a reservation for you for Monday 2 APRIL, including dinner and breakfast.
Please come straight from the station to our hostel, as we will be waiting for you for dinner.
After that there will be time enough to visit the pilgrim's office, if you want...." Isn't that welcoming- they're going to hold dinner til we get there! :-) It will cost Euro 8 to stay 9 for dinner ( including wine ) and 3 for breakfast and 3 for a 'packed lunch to take for our first pasrt of the trek over the Pyrenees. Diane and I have decided we will take the first few days slowly - especially going over the Pyrenees - by staying at Orisson the 2nd night which is only 8km from St

Ooooo we're naked ! lol
Jean Pied de Port....but that 8km is a steep part of the journey - many people do the up and over in one day ...but many also break up the journey to 'ease into' the journey. I think its a good decision.
The second Alburge in Orisson http://www.refuge-orisson.com/en/ required a 50%!d(MISSING)eposit to book ( unlike L'Espirit DC) ) AND is more expensive 36 Euro each............ the only issue with that is IF the weather is bad on the day and the Pilgrim office says its unsafe to go that route - we may need to head a different way - and will lose our deposit... but if so - so be it. These two are the ONLY reservations we will make for accomodation- the rest of the camino we will take each day as it comes ...

IS THERE aplace to find a Euro sign, or a British pound sign on a keyboard?? will the keyboards o'seas be different ? I imagine so ....

I have made 2 cardboard look-a-likes which we will leave behind so we are not forgotten :-D and to attend any family/social/important events in our absence - who knows someone may decide to

Tarte de Santiago

My first attempt and it is another almond meal based ( gluten free ) dish which was pleasantly tasy but lacking the hedonistic almost lascivious deliciousness of the recent Persian Love Cake....well I think so - But the Tarte de Santiago can be found ( well - bought) all along the camino De Santiago
