Leaving Adelaide in 74 days to walk the Camino De Santiago.....time to ramp up frequency of walks and aim for increased fitness....... I have read that The Journey - 'The Way ' begins as you step out of your doorway .....or maybe when I was born :-)

Last entry Burgos Birthday yes?? Well we stayed one more day there and I cant remember if I mentioned Diane´s attempt to order a burger at a bar...... only one came and we had to share it ... was kind of funny...... Di thinks if she keeps making mistakes I won´t get her to go and order any more.... but I´m wise to THAT ploy :-) We were both really ready to get on the road again... and ended up doing another 30km day to get to Hontanas... it was a VERY strong wind but a great walk onto a Meseta.... which is a table top plain ..... wind farms were everywhere -so THAT´S why it was so windy - ar ar .... AND it was raining too but we hadnt put on our ponchos because ... read more

Ola! The last place I left off telling you wans the little ancient church with all the prayers/messages inside if I remember rightly.... well that was about the 11th April...... so I am going to skip a few days to talk about the more recent last 3 - because I didnt journal it and need to write down before I forget!..... .. we walked on day 12 from azofra to a small place called Granon.... many many people have a book written by John Brierley which is a map/guidebook/Camino Bible really .. it IS very helpful but dies tend to divide the days walks into very set structures so it is a good idea to NOT stop at the end of his map every day but continue 35km onto the next map, thereby avoiding full Albergues ... read more

Well here we after, after a ´rest day´of doing only 13km yesterday..... The Internet in the Azofra Albergue is pretty good , but I get 40 mins for 2 Euro and there are folk hanging around behind me waiting to use, so I´m just going to type as fastas I can and FORGET punctuation, grammar, spelling errors etc..... so bear with me.... one day I will come back to all the blog entries and correct AND add pics, but I suspect that wont be until we get back to Aust..... IF I remember correctly the last entry was after a stay at 100 yr old monastery........... AFTER that day we walked to Cizor Menor.... and stayed in a really lovely private Alb. for only 10 Euro.... we shared a room with about 6/7 other women... many ... read more

London - last day was fantiastic day of pic taking and walking the streets... LOVED the Houses of Parliament..... and happened to go in to Westmeinster Cathedral ( NOT Abbey) .... there was a FULL mass happening, church was packed - had a full choir singing so so sweetly.... it was amazing..... I ....wanted to get in to the full view of the service and choir... so I went in the line to take Catholic Communion for the first time in about 40 yrs! not the usual reason to take communion but I´m sure I wil be ... read more

Sitting in an internet cafe on Essex Rd (Islington?) - the night before we catch a plane to France to begin walking The Camino..... It has been a wonderful whirlwind visit, staying with Diane's son Dwayne and wife Jules who are expecting their first baby in about 12 weeks.....The baby will be a stunner I'm sure ! The first morning we arrived ( Friday at 6am) we managed to stay awake all day ( after fitful sleep on the plane from HongKong- where the flight attendants insisted on feeding us very very often the tasty little meals that are hard to resist) . On that day we saw the Borough Markets that had stunning stalls and displays of so much amazing food - apparently many 'Head Chefs' shop there -we did an on/off bus trip and ... read more

Well I am ensconced on the couch after a lovely weekend of Bon Voyages.... beginning on Friday night and ending on Sunday afternoon . Half eaten dips now in fridge, last night's washing up all cleared away..some pics up on FB..... and now a cuppa, grapes and a banana and 'do the Blog' . Feeling very warm and fuzzy ( yes - all my life ar ar ) after a get together firstly with my 'work family' at Diane's on Friday - where the numbers of folk were not quite what we expected , quite a few last minute cancellations - hence the TONS of food left over lol Luckily some of Diane's family ( and a couple of client's from our ward) were also there and thank goodness for that as the only pics taken ... read more

Yes....... 3 weeks today - we leave....... Have been walking as regularly as possible - my schedule is VERY busy with work shifts, socialising, Adelaide Fringe/Festival things to attend, choir etc - I honestly DO NOT have any free time until we get onto the plane ( where I may collapse weeping and exhausted!.....I know - it's my own fault.....!) I have done a few walks up Anstey's Hill - one in the rain..... that was useful because I discovered my boots weren't particularly waterproof - I have 're-dubbinned' them and will do so again a few times probably before they see rain again.... It was interesting also because I found that when walking in the steady rain ( in an Altus poncho - which has arms and is more like a raincoat really - but ... read more

Well its been nearly 2 weeks from last blog entry........... so TODAY is 35 days/5 weeks until the day we leave.... Walking is ... spasmodic really - Diane is far more diligent than I in walking almost daily.... I went to Christies with the goal of a couple of solid walking days.... and forgot my boots! Or running shoes - all I had was sandals - so a little cursory beach walking was all that occurred THAT weekend ...... and I STILL haven't fully packed the backpack to check weight etc.... I am waiting for a plug in coil water heater- bought on Ebay ( for quick cuppas before heading off in the dawn light )...... will we actually NEED it?? I dont know - on the forums many say its a 'don't leave home without' ... read more

Had a wonderful opportunity for a break at a Christies Beach house where we could do some solid walking for 3 days.....We decided on wearing boots and backpacks - had INTENDED on walking with the poles but that didn't happen... I am still trying to get the backpack sorted into its most comfortable position with strap adjustment / way that it is packed etc ... the pack is a Deuter 65L, and specifically designed for women.... this allows for narrower shoulder width and a more curved hip belt. It can be adjusted for varying back lengths....it weighs just over 1kg..... which NOW seems a little heavy for our purpose of walking for 5+ weeks.... many others on the Camino forum walk with ULTRA light backpacks...but I'm sure it will be ok.... the trick is (apparently) to ... read more

Mission accomplished today - a walk in the early morning ( well- early for me - not for Ms I-get- up- at- 5am- every- day- Diane ) I was up at 6 ... at Diane's by 7.15 - started walking at 7-40. An astonishing number of people out early - to beat the heat I guess as the temp was forecast to be 36 degC which is blood temperature really - but how much hotter that feels OUTSIDE the body :-) We walked from mid-way between Grange and Henley Bch Jetties - to Glenelg - and back ... about 20km I think ..... Bandaid Blister Aid placed on suspect toe was effective in making it painless to walk - but didnt stay in place once shoes were removed and we walked at the water's edge from ... read more
