LAST day today before we get to Santiago tomorrow........

It was a beautiful day's walk - for the first time since we started it was warm enough to walk in shorts alone - NO striped leggings! or knee braces... walked with bare legs and arms in the sunshine ... lovely.

We met James and Angie again - stirred James up because he wasnt walking with his pack - Diane called him pilgrim wannabe :-) - he took it in good spirit. We took a few more pics this morning of our fellow pilgrims more than the scenery..... stopped in a forest for an alfresco lunch - more pics - of boots and leaves :-)

Walking through the forest was lovely, sun shining, wind in the trees, bird calls, and Eucalypts too- see below for little video - but when you get there click and drag the play cursor thingy to past 35 secs - otherwise it just freezes at 30 secs.... who knows why.....

We came upon a very poignant memorial for a fellow pilgrim who had died, only a day out of

Santiago - Guillermo Watt - there were his walking boots - in metal - little religious cards, flowers, a picture of his dog, a baby's dummy...... I think its impossible to be untouched by the lovely memorial of a man who walked so far whose journey's end was not Santiago - though so close - but it continued on away from this life to the next ...it was very sweet and moving

At this late stage I was really noticing getting tired earlier and earlier in the day.....I put in the earphones and cranked up the music at about 1-30 I think.... When we finally reached the LAST stop before Santiago Arco do Pino we'd decided to stay in a Pensione - to avoid a crowded albergue full of 'fresh ' pilgrims and just have a peaceful rest for the last night...... well........... we asked at 2 - and they were already full... I can't recall HOW we found the place we stayed at - I think we were directed there by another diff pensione owner - but when we arrived it was a house- next to a deli - and all closed up! there was a

sign on the door with a phone number so we rang it and I had a very stilted confused english/spanish conversation ..happily 5 mins later a young guy turned up - let us in to the 2 story house and showed us the upstairs area we could use. It was great - priv bathroom - with bath! - and a twin bedroom with a great picture window that we could climb through to get to the outdoor rooftop area with a wash line that had purple pegs...I think it was 30 Euro for the night... 15 E each - and exactly what we needed. While I was in the bath ... there was sounds of someone else coming into the house - and it was James and Angie again! They accessed our room to be able to get to the roof to hang out their washing......

Diane and I - as usual after a long days walking - decided to go for a walk/look around the town ! .....It was a full and busy and disappointingly we saw very few people we knew..... we ended up having hamburger and pizza for tea - with the Texans and a couple

of German Guys we'd shared a few stops with along the way but never learnt their names ........D and I bought an icecream, had a little more walking around the town.... and talked over what we were thinking/feeling about the following day - our expectations, hopes, hope-nots ..... back to the Pensione where we aired our loyal and much loved feet in the windowsill and watched the sun go down on our last full days walk, and over the countryside........ I'm feeling more and more despondent typing this up ... and remembering..... and wanting to walk the Camino again.....
