The plan for this week was to get away somewhere but be close enough for my girls night in Brisbane (to see Queen) on Thursday, and to attend the Caravan & Camping show at Redcliffe on the weekend.
We left Grafton early on Monday morning (10/02) and headed north to our first stop - Ballina RV Centre. The ESC (electronic stability control) had stopped working last trip and was still showing a red indicator (not working properly). After a couple of hours of trial and error it was finally working and we were good to go. Then there was a traffic accident between Yelgun and Chinderah which caused a detour off the motorway up the Tweed Valley Way, and then another accident on the Gold Coast which caused bumper to bumper traffic on the motorway for about an hour. Frustrating when you just want to get to where you're going to relax... but we weren't really in a hurry so all good. We arrived about 4pm and then went for a walk along the waterway. There are a lot of nice waterfront parks and the headland walk was very nice (a good circuit for an early morning walk the next
day).
So much rain - we had hoped to escape the rain for a while, but that didn't happen. The weather really wasn't good for sightseeing so apart from a few short walks around the caravan park and a drive around to look at the area and do a bit a shopping, we didn't see much.
Thursday was my much waited for event; Queen + Adam Lambert. Kevin dropped me off at the apartment where I met up with the other girls. We had dinner at a pub with no steak and walked across the bridge to Suncorp Stadium. When we got into the stadium it poured down, and it rained throughout the entire concert. I kinda felt sorry for the people who paid a fortune for field tickets - they got drenched all night. The show was awesome and our ears were ringing by the end of the night. The rain turned to drizzle as we left the stadium and stopped as we walked back to the apartment - we are so lucky. I am so fortunate to have a wonderful sister and friends to share these experiences with 😊... We all had a great night.
After breakfast the next morning Cindy and I decided to get a bit of culture by visiting the "Water" exhibition at GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) at Southbank. The exhibition was ok - not fantastic. But it was nice to spend a bit more time with my sister and there were a couple of cool exhibits, like the waterhole. It would have been nice to see a bit more of Southbank, but we had both had more than enough exercise so called it a day. Back at Scarborough it hadn't rained all night and the sky was clear and sunny.
Saturday at the caravan and camping show was super hot... we weren't looking at caravans (very happy with what we have), just the trader stalls. There is always a lot to see at these shows and I could spend a fortune, but didn't (no room for 'stuff'). By lunchtime we had walked around the whole site and found a few things that we wanted. We decided it was too hot to continue for the day though so got a pass-out to return the next day.
Another hot and humid day on Sunday. We drove into Redcliffe to see
the Jetty and Bee Gee's Way and found the CBD of Redcliffe closed for Sunday morning markets. Later we returned to the Caravan Camping Show to buy a couple of things that we had seen the day before (a fan and some stuff for the loo).
Tomorrow we head back to Grafton for a few days...then we may head west.
