Aye she a beauty !!
Ron Of Argyll! 1928 Classic sail ship... Apparently Marilyn Monroe had good times on this ship ;-)
Prob with JFK Got the Greyhound bus to Airlie Beach and checked into Magnums resort. Our room was very shitty and only had a bed in it, and we had to share a bathroom with 8 other rooms. However the complex was cool and always lively and made a refreshing change being back in civilisation. It had a big open area, with bars and clubs and open air live performances, many restaurants and places to get food. I entered a pool tourney but was pants as me and Jo had got through several jugs of beer by this point. We spent the evening chatting to a cool Irish guy and some quality Israeli guys. The next day we were hanging so we spent the afternoon writing xmas postcards to the family and chilling out by a lagoon. The following day we got up real early to go on our Whitsunday’s trip on a fully restored beautiful 1928 classic small sailing boat called ‘Ron Of Argyll’ which apparently was Marilyn Monroe’s favourite ship where she sailed on it several times around the Caribbean. We got the really small beds up the front of the ship but it was nice. We met the skipper and the
Arrh ! Ain't that nice!
Getting toasty at Whitehaven. deckhand who was a Italian called Alissio, and set sail on our voyage. There was 3 English girls, 2 Belgian couples, an Irish couple and a Swedish girl on the trip and we all got to know each other pretty quickly. Jo and I were first to volunteer in the hoisting of the sails, which was hard work, but good fun. We stopped off for our first snorkel trip which was amazing, the sea was really warm and the visibility was so clear. There were so many different types of fish and sea creatures and the coral was beautiful. We then set sail for another top snorkel sight where we were able to swim into a dark cave where there were millions of shoaling fish right in front of you as you swam in. This was really eerie but very cool. We then set sail again to find shelter for the night in a bay area on one of the main isles. At this point Alissio the deckhand who was always constantly busy, prepared our evening meal. The food Alissio made for us all on this trip was amazing and fresh and very Italian consisting of salads, pasta with olives
The best beach ever!!
Probably the best beach we have ever been too! Shame you can't swim for fear of being eaten or stung to death. and BBQ steak and chicken. I don’t think Jo and I had ever eaten so healthily. The bay in which we had parked up for the first night was apparently a hammerhead shark breeding ground and we were all hoping to catch a glimpse of them but it was to dark. We all got to know each other over drinks and drinking games. The sky was amazing as there was no light pollution around us we could see millions of stars so clearly. Jo and I stayed out on deck and watched the stars for most of the night, slowly progressing through our 4 litre carton of wine. The next morning the sun was blazing and we headed around to Whitehaven beach where we climbed what seemed a mountain to get to a lookout. When we got there the view was breath taking and well worth the hike. The colours of sea and sand were astonishing as the sand was so white and fine and the sea colour ranged from light blue to the darkest deepest blue. We headed back down the hill to take a closer look. We chilled on the beach for a while then headed back to the boat and sailed off to another snorkel location. Went for a snorkel as the sun set which was cool, then had an amazing dinner of steak, mash and gravy. We settled down to another evening on the goon juice (wine) and checking out the skies. Got up early the next morning and went for another snorkel and had a slow sail back to Airlie. Only a few issues with the trip as there was no showers on the boat we were caked in 3 days of sun cream and salt and also there was hardly any shade so we all ended up slightly toasty. But all in all the trip was one to remember! :-)
Back at Airlie and had a much needed shower and headed back out to meet everyone from the boat. The tipple for the evening was ‘Yegabombs’ and went to a club called ‘Mumma Africa’s’ which played some cool trance music. We had to check out early the next day so Jo spent a while trying to get me up and motivate me. I probably had the worst hangover of my life and we spent the rest of the day waiting around for the night bus to Hervey Bay. This was a horrible feeling as so badly needed sleep. Finally got the bus at 8pm and arrived in Hervey Bay at around 7am. This was nightmare journey and I think I was the most uncomfortable I have ever been in my life, and for 11 hours.
