Day 144 - Darwin
Morning! The weather forecast says it might rain today, very exciting! Rain, imagine what that will do to the humidity! Glorious!
Darryl has an appointment this morning with a sponge and a hose pipe, the caravan needs a good clean whilst I have an appointment at The Shearing Shed up the road! I’m not being rude it’s what the hairdressers is called!
Desperate (?!) for some exercise I pedal the short journey on my bike, very enjoyable although it’s still early so the build up of heat hasn’t quite kicked in! I’m cheerfully greeted at The Shearing Shed by Jo who is going to ‘shear’ me today. I’m feeling thoroughly spoiled as I have my hair washed whist sitting on the relaxing, laid back massage chair - it’s all great! Thanks very much ladies, the cut should see me through to Christmas at least! The colour will have to be sorted by Julie at Spectrum when we get home!!
The pedal back to camp didn’t take long and by the time I arrived Darryl had done a superb job with the cleaning of the caravan. It’s positively sparkling!
Chores all done and
it still gave us time for a quick swim before heading out and about for the rest of the day.
All refreshed from our swim we head in towards Darwin for a bit of mini golf entertainment! Fellow bloggers Kanagaroojack told us about a short course which is just across the road from the Mindil markets so we thought that would be something fun to do, nothing too competitive mind you, just a way to spend some relaxing time!
We find the Gardens Park Golf Links with its 18 hole mini golf course, pay our $6’s per person and hit it! Things go well on the first game with Darryl getting the first of his two ‘holes in one’ on only the second hole! We were quite impressed with ourselves and the score was tied until I lost the plot on the penultimate hole! The ball had to go through any one of four tunnels, out the other side and into the hole, it took me 11 attempts! If ten shots is a “Moose” I dread to think what eleven is! Anyway that put Darryl on 55 and me on 66. “Another game Hun?” I offered, no penalty,
no ‘winner takes all’ just the chance for me to redeem my good mini golf name! The second game was much closer although I did have a bit of a disaster on the 11th and Darryl suffered on the 17th! We finished tied on a rather rubbish 62 and Andy who was running the course for the day picked us up for not issuing penalties if the ball went out of play. Frankly it would have made the totting up very complicated with such an increase in the numbers - the ball went out of play a lot!!
Well that pretty much tired us out for the rest of the afternoon so we walked back to the car which we’d conveniently parked at the beach market site. We got the chairs out and sat with the CD player going in the car! I wrote some much overdue postcards and Dar had a great ‘people watch’ session then it was time to wander through this weeks offering of market stalls!
It’s a great atmosphere and we do enjoy watching & listening to all the street entertainers and buskers. The market itself seemed really packed out tonight so it was
just nice to sit in our chairs leaving everyone else bustling for position!
And there ended another day in Darwin, oh, apart from an entertaining Skype session with Kangaroojack who have joined in with us watching “The Amazing Race” on a Thursday night. It’s a great TV programme about several teams of two that are set challenges to get themselves all over world. It really looks like a lot of fun but the programme ended with a TBC next week for what we think is the final show and we might be in the middle of nowhere then! Oh well, we’ll be back on our own amazing adventure without the race bit then so it won’t bother us too much if we miss it!
Take care everyone
