Day 145 - Darwin
What’s that we feel on our faces, could it be the coolness of a breeze? Nope it’s just the cool air from the fan which is working overtime as normal!! No need to fly out of bed today as we’re pretty much going to be hanging around until we get the call from Alan at N.T. Mobile Mechanical Services letting us know whether or not the parts have arrived to fix the car.
I get on with the blog updates whilst Dar busies himself around the caravan. The phone rings at 10.30, hurrah the parts of here so we head off to drop the car over to the workshop. We leave Alan to it and pedal back to camp, it shouldn’t be too long he said so we won’t be going far.
We get some more chores done, catch up a bit more with the blog and some emails which are long overdue. We really love getting messages from people and we crave for news telling us how things are going back home but I’ve neglected to reply to some that we’ve had so I need to rectify that situation quickly! The lovely Julie
our hairdresser at Spectrum in Moira is one, Simon Allen, Rod (Tony) Hull and Mags Troughton from Tradeteam, Poorvi & Puneet in Melbourne and John and Lesley the Tassie Tumbleweeds - apologies to you all, we got behind but I’m back up to speed now!!
Time goes by and we have a spot of lunch, there’s been no phone call from Alan so when the clock passes two o’clock we start to wonder if there’s been a problem. Not long after that thought was still running round our head we get the call we’ve been waiting for and there is indeed a bit of an issue. Now that we have fully working brakes, one of the pipes has shown up a leak under the pressure and it’s not something that Alan is able to manufacture. If the part needs to be shipped in it won’t be here til Wednesday. We ask Alan if there’s anywhere in Darwin that might be able to help and there is but it’s nearing 3pm on a Friday so he’s cautious as to whether or not they’d be up for doing it. We’ve been told by many travellers that Darwin can often be ‘Not today, not tomorrow, perhaps next week’ attitude but that certainly was not the case today! Phil Kerr Brake Specialists told us that so long as we got there before 4.30 today they would make us the part on the spot if they didn’t have it on the shelf! They stuck to their word too and once Darryl had given them the offending pipe it took no more than 10 minutes and Darryl was back under the car fitting the new one! Great service, thanks a lot guys.
We triumphantly made it back to Alan within the hour and he finished off bleeding the brakes so we were all good to go. Thanks to Alan for the extra hours he worked on the car and the running around he did for us. We’ll recommend you to all the travellers at Howard Springs!
So there we are, back on the road and able to continue with our travelling tomorrow. We went off to Woolworths for a few food supplies, nothing too major just bits and bobs to keep us going through the next week or so.
We spoke to Mum and Dad K over Skype tonight which was good and we’re very pleased to hear that everything is ok with them. Hopefully we’ll speak to Darryl’s Mum and Dad later tonight too but if not then we’ll give them a phone call tomorrow before we leave.
I don’t think I mentioned it but we had an email from the fab couple Tony and Jane whom we first met on top Uluru
At the moment, the choice is yours. They are now back home in Orange after their holiday and we're working on a route to be able to visit them at some point before we go home! We missed a phone call from them which we were gutted about but hopefully we'll catch up with them soon however we do have something to remind ourselves of them, Jane has sent the recipe for the awesome Sticky Date Pudding which we all thoroughly enjoyed at our night in Finke River
Best Mc'ers we've ever been too!. Unfortunately the recipe was in a format that the computer wouldn’t read but the excellent “help desk” aka Ed (thanks again Ed!) came to the rescue and we now have the information we need to make this delicious pudding! We’ll let you know when we do it and how good it tastes. It feeds quite a lot so if anyone wants to share some of it then give us a shout!! Whilst all this was going on we received an email from Carole and Ray who we also met at Uluru and are now back home after their holiday. They live ‘on our route’ so we know we’ll be able to catch up with them as we near Melbourne which will be good.
We’re back on the road tomorrow and we’re really looking forward to it. We’ve got a lot more adventuring to do!!
Love to everyone

Work -update
Not a lot happening ;-) Oracle 11 upgrade for Calidus imminent. 2nd line going 24/7 (no OOH) & AMT go "On Call" 3rd Oct. Aurora 2.3 upgrade due early Nov. Usual support hassles, including Brains & Greene King. Any openings for Application Managers down there? lol
