Our best day by far was going to Toronga Zoo in Sydney. We organised to go to the Roar and Snore sleepover in the Zoo. This meant that we got to sleep in a little tent in the actual Zoo. When we arrived the zoo was closed. There were about 20 people on the sleepover. The zoo was very quiet and we went off to see the Koalas. The first amazing thing that we saw was the Koalas were all awake and they were jumping from tree to tree. Our guide said that it was very unusual that they did this when people were watching, especially as they sleep for over 20 hours a day.
The next thing that we saw was the Chimps sleeping. We got up really close and got to see them sleeping and their keeper told us all about them and how they live just like us as families.
After that we got sorted in our little tent in a little camping village in the center of the zoo. The view over to the center of Sydney was amazing and as it started to get dark it all lit up and the view was even more
amazing.
We had snacks in the campground and then the keepers brought some animals out for us to touch. There were big lizards and snakes. I now really love these animals but we were only able to stroke then and not hold them. The keepers told us how to look after them and things like what they like to eat.
We then went for dinner amongst the animals in the main restaurant. We had to chase a possum out who was after our dinner. It was then time to go for a walk with our guide in the dark to see what all the animals are doing when the zoo is closed.
The first animals that we saw were bears. There were really old but beautiful and came right to us and the keeper threw peanuts over the wall to the bears. They have the best sense of smell and she said they could smell the peanuts for miles. While we were watching the bears the lions started roaring really loudly. It was so quiet that it was a spooky thing to hear.
After walking round the whole Zoo and seeing all the animals we
went to sleep in our tent. Mum said that there was a possum on the roof trying to get in but I was too busy sleeping! The next morning we got a guided tour round the Zoo while all the animals were waking up before anyone came into the Zoo. This was really special and the photos show how many animals that there were. The lions were the best!
After that we went to the education center where we got to meet lots more animals. Most of them were Australian animals, like Koalas and Wallabys. I did get to see lots of snakes again which I loved. Me and mum then spent the rest of the day wandering around the zoo. We even got to see a seal show which was really funny.
Taronga zoo Roar and Snore was the best time ever!
