Stunning Sydney Opera House as the sun sets on 2009. The last day of the year is finally here as everyone prepares to celebrate the beginning of 2010. We again woke up early as I was keen to get a good spot to watch the famous Sydney New Years Eve fireworks display, I was maybe a little too keen. I quickly got ready and rushed outside heading towards the Opera House, there were a few people out and about but not many. I grabbed a great spot in front of the Opera House I arrived just before 8:30 in the morning. Hannah came and met me shortly after and we settled in for a long, long wait. That really was about if for the majority of the day, which seemed to go forever. By lunchtime it was packed, hard to move around there were so many people. Fortunately we were positioned nearby various cafes and bathrooms which made things much easier for us.
We waited for hours and hours, it seemed that 2010 would never come. Darkness came, we were getting closer, only another 3-4 hours left. Eventually the 9PM fireworks kicked off, they were impressive, a good lead up to the big show. I actually thought quite a lot

Thousands & thousands of people getting a spot for the greatest NYE fireworks on the planet. of people would leave but it only seemed to get busier and busier, we were fighting to keep our space. Eventually after waiting 17 hours, yes 17 hours! The countdown began and fireworks exploded all over the Sydney Habour and the city. The display was incredible, the sky was lit up all different colours as the fireworks became more and more intense. The Sydney Harbour Bridge exploded in colourful fireworks, it was stunning. Was it worth the wait? It was pretty impressive, but the long wait was murder. Once all the excitement was over the waded our way through the tens of thousands of people trying to get home. Thankfully for us it was only a 10 minute walk through the crowd to get to our hotel, now that was worth the money. From our room we could see all the people flocking out of Circular Quay, thousands and thousands of people, it was quite a sight. After a little television we headed to sleep after a long, long day.
01/01/2010 - For our last day in Sydney and first day in 2010 we were going to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge after I had to reschedule after our

The sun setting over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. cancelled flight. We checked out of our magnificent hotel and took a taxi to the Bridge climb office where we quickly grabbed some breakfast/lunch. Shortly afterwards it was our turn for a briefing. After a brief introduction we had to sign a few forms and also get a breath test, strictly no drunk people climbing the bridge, seems fair. Next we were suited up in strange jumpsuits which were saggy and uncomfortable, we were also given a few extra bits and pieces and a locker to keep our gear. Finally we got setup with a harness and we were all ready to tackle the test climb. It was a metal frame with stairs and ladders which were made out of the same metal out on the bridge, it was very easy, no one had any problems whatsoever. We had all passed the test and were ready to take on Sydney Harbour Bridge. One by one we attached ourselves to the railing with our harnesses and began the fantastic climb to the top of the bridge. When we reached the arch you could see and smell fireworks residue from the night before. You could also see some of the setup, even

2010 starts with a bang, and incredible fireworks display. some fuses left behind from last night’s show.
Eventually we reached the top of the beautiful Sydney Harbour Bridge where we all had photos taken of the spectacular views across Sydney. After taking in the incredible 360 degree views we crossed the bridge and slowly made our way back down the arch, down massive ladders going in between train lines and back into the Bridge climb centre. We returned our gear got our stuff from the lockers and quickly rushed off to the airport. We arrived with just enough time to jump on our plane back to Melbourne, lucky for us it wasn’t cancelled this time.
