Us with Mark and Tom in the World Bar
After a week in Sydney we had well and truely settled into the backpacker life, its alot like being back at college again, drinking, meeting new people and generally having a laugh (of course at college we also worked very hard!) Working on reception was really easy and we split the six hours between us. General duties were checking people in and out, keeping computer updated and doing the laundry, aswell as being the local tourist information. We were quite surprised at how much we knew about Sydney already. Aside from this, in all honesty, the majority of our ime was spent chatting, spinning around on chairs and worrying about that evenings oufits. Speaking of outfits, when we arrived in Sydney we had very little suitable for wearing out as going out here was very different to going out in Thailand. In Thailand you could go out wearing a bikini and surong and no one would think it strange. This meant shopping was in order and we spent what felt like everyday in the city centre. This has led to Jo having a reformed backpack! We look nice which is the main thing.

hostle and they have a different venue lined up each night. The most popular is the Gaff which is in Oxford Street about 15mins walk from Cooee. The Gaff is full of backpackers and we always have a good night whenever we go. Our favourite place though is the World Bar just around the corner. Its a funky little bar with its best night, in our opinion being thursday as they play Indie music all night and theres generally a good atmosphere. You will always find the Cooee crowd in the Gaff on a friday night after the weekly hosle bash. Every friday they hold 'Friday Frenzy' you pay $10 for all you can drink. Is loads of fun and a great way too meet new people. More often than not someone doesnt make it to the Gaff.

This brings us to one particular night which still makes us giggle now. We were working reception and couldn't join in the fun. The only people that turned up for the 'Friday Frenzy' were a handful of the regular lads who to say enjoy a drink would be an understatement. We watched the potential car crash unfold, as they worked their

way through over $100 of alchohol. Oh my god, what a mess! lets just say none of the little boys made it to the Gaff that night. After locking up we decided to hit the sack. When we entered our corridor we were greated with the sight of one lad from Kent named Tom unconsious, flat out, face first on the floor. He had already been put to bed twice that night, the first time returning with a santa hat and the second with green hair and purple eye shadow, later we found out he had wondered into the Irish Girls room, aka 'The Teds' and they had attacked him, although apparantly he had specifically asked for purple for he eyes! When we found him he had not made it far and had duvet in tow. As he was finally asleep and had some luxury, i.e duvet, we decided he was best left there, but not before we took some pictures to remind him in the morning. Once in our room we heard a bang we looked out to see tom stumbling from wall to wall. Having the master keys meant that we could put him back to bed, which

we tried several times with no joy, each time we left he would fall out of bed and he kept locking himself out. Through fear of further injury, we decided to adopt him like the Littlist Hobo and keep him in our room. He repeatedly kept apologising and calling us 'The lovely recepion ladies' and saying 'my mum would love you two'. He kept us laughing for ages, a friendship was formed. Just as he fell asleep more casualties arrived in the shape of Tom's mate Mark and Canadian Joel, and the fun started all over again, with everyone ending up in our room for the night, bless the children.

Over the next few weeks this became the norm only with us being a little worse for wear too. Party on dude!
