Well, I thought I'd wait to right a blog until something happened that could match the Mardi Gras in my last blog...but it doesn't really seem as though anything much has happened. That was until I actually thought about it!!!
The next big thing after the Mardi Gras was the arrival of Nisha & I's friends Gemma & Sam, a couple we met in the Cook Islands, and part of 'The Bus Crew'! It was so good to have them here, and after a few days of rubbish weather they brought the sun with them from Adelaide, where it had been breaking records it was so hot!! The three of us went to meet them off the bus and had a happy reunion before trudging them up the hill to our house with their big ole backpacks in the sun! That evening we met up with the boys and our Irish friends, Sue & Barry, for a big night out Sydney style.
They unfortunately only stayed in Sydney for a few days but while they were here we had them trudging down to Circular Quay, to see the view of the Harbour bridge and the Opera House, and all
around the botanical gardens (where Sam became facinated by the Ibis'- following them around and taking Photo's as though he were David Attenborough!). We also spent one evening after work drinking beer and eating Fish & Chips as we watched the sun go down at Darling Harbour!! Sydney Rocks!! We even got a home cooked dinner out of them while they were here, there was so much food for our Fajitas that the table was nearly bowing!! Before we knew it though we were putting them back on the Greyhound and waving them off up the coast.
The next big excitement was Easter weekend, unfortunately none of us could really afford to do much as, although we had the well needed days off, we weren't being paid for them - the trials and tribulations of being a temp! However after a day of sitting on the sofa with our Duvets watching Old movies we decided we needed to get uot of the house and ended up going to one of the big churches in town to watch, and listen, to Hendel's Messiah! It was amazing, the accoustics in the church were amazing and the orchestra were fantastic (you'd have
Pub Golf
Darren, Sam, gemma, Nisha & Nina on our 'Pub Golf' Night out loved it Dad, we were almost sitting in the with them!). The all boys Choir was quite amusing, as it got later they slumped further and further down their seats and started picking their noses and yawning more!!
Saturday we spent on the beach, and Sunday I decided to accompany Alex, one of the boys, to church. What he sisn't tell me was that it was a Anglican Service, a new experience for me, and a little longer adn formal than I'd been expecting - but certainly an experience!
Unfortunately for us Girls, the time for our boys to leave Sydney came the weekend after Easter. We had a few good nights out with them in Kings Cross before they got on the Greyhound, stupidly early in the morining, and again we waved off our friends! Our last night with them coincided with the Earth Hour Event, the plan was to turn all the lights out in the city for an hour to highlight the amount of energy used I think. There had been so much publicity in Sydney with regards to it - so we all went down to Circular Quay to watch the lights go
out. Unfortunately it was quite a disappointment, they turned the lights out on the Harboyur bridge and some lights on the Opera house but that was about it! Disappointing!!
A couple of weeks after Easter we had yet another public holiday! As the Aussies were celebrating Anzac Day. I was blown away by how much bigger this commenorative weeekend is over here, especially in comparison to Remebrance Day in the Uk. It was amazing. We'd had such bag weather in the lead up to the weekend (we actually had record breaking amounts of rain for Australia, 12 days straight which is the first time this had happened in April for 80 years, and in Australia full stop for 12 years!! It's madness), and it had realyl been getting on top of us, so Nisha & Nina hired themselves a car and headed down the coast to a town called Kiama, famous for a treetop walk way and spectacular blow holes. Unfortunately my puney wage meant that i counldn't afford to join them, so instead spent the weekend with some friends who live in Neutral Bay (the other side of the Harbour bridge) soaking up the sun and wandering
around all the amazing local markets!! It's amazing how different it is over the bridge, their area is so quite, they have kookaburra's waking them u in th morning and the sun beats into their lovely little flat. In comparison, as much as we adore our house with the pink door, we live in a real hub, there; so much going on and so much noise!!
Since then life has been pretty quiet. The leaves have all turned brown and scarves and coats are on!
