I think that a government should be responsible for abiding by the commitments that its predecessors made. A commitment is just like a promise, it is made out of faith and once a promise is broken it is not the same. The person or people who broke the promise may not be trusted again. The same goes for a commitment, for example, if the United States decided to break their treaty with the Native Americans then it may cause other treaties and commitments to break for fear that the United States would back down. If a government does not abide the commitments that their predecessors made then they are saying that they are not trust worthy. They are saying that there is no point in creating new commitments because our future government will just say that they are invalid, mostly because it has been years, the past is the past and we have to move on. This is not true because creating this situation will cause no respect and people to doubt each other.
