International UFO Museum !
Tim with a reproduction of the aliens that the government had hidden in Area 51 !! :-) I guess you can say we slept okay last night considering that we were scrunched in between Jerry's All Night Lounge and Peter Pipers 24 Hour Pizza Parlor !! Tim stayed up for a little while last night searching the open skies for any form of life he could find with no avail. He really had his heart set on seeing a UFO while we were in the area, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Yes, I'm serious, he was up for hours watching the empty sky waiting for those blinking lights to come hovering over the Wal-Mart parking lot !! I kept thinking to myself how hilarious it would be if some of these UFO junkies were to play a practical joke on him by shining some type of lights into the sky or something. We would have to listen to his UFO stories for the rest of our lives !! Needless to say, he didn't see anything but it wasn't for lack of trying. Once we got up this morning and got ready we headed out of Alamorgodo and straight for the town of Roswell, New Mexico. This is the town where the UFO supposedly landed
Cherry or Grape ??
Bet you've never had an alien sno-cone !! in the local farmer's field way back in 1947. After a two and a half hour drive we finally made it to Roswell and so we drove around for a few minutes checking out the town. There was alien stuff everywhere you looked. Stores, sno-cone shacks, even the street lights were little alien heads !! Eventually, we came upon the International UFO Museum that Lynn's book talked about so we parked and headed for the front door. Once we bought our tickets we began walking through all the booths and reading all the stories and stuff. I can't lie, I was ready to go about three minutes after we bought the tickets but I thought, I should probably stay and support my husband !! He was seriously getting all into this stuff and it was all I could do not to just crack up laughing right then and there. Well, I'm not sure what he read or what he saw, but about 20 minutes later he finds me and tells me that it's time to go !! You'll have to ask him but I don't think he's a believer anymore !! We had promised a few people (not naming names)
Downtown Roswell !
This is Roswell, New Mexico as we entered the town ! that we would get them an alien t-shirt or something so we had to shop around for a bit until the list was complete. Thank goodness we were done in Roswell and we were back on the road and headed to Carlsbad Caverns. We were getting kinda hungry so I went to the kitchen and made us some sandwiches for lunch so we wouldn't have to stop again. About thirty minutes later we drove straight into another terrible storm, except this one was so bad we actually had to pull over off the road. We pulled into an office complex where Tim drove around to the side to try and protect us from the wind. He looked over at me as he pointed at the stop sign that he said was bent 180 degrees from the wind. We stayed there and waited out the storm and then we were soon back on the road. The storm must have scared the poor little prairie dogs, because no sooner than we were back on the road, I hear a thump under the motor home. Tim had killed another helpless prairie dog !! I swear these little things just don't have a chance
T-Shirt Anyone ?
This place was a hoot, these people are making millions !! against him !! We eventually arrived at Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico but Tim turns to me and tells me that we only have an hour and a half because the race was coming on tonight and he had to be back in the motor home in time for the first lap. I quickly realized that I wouldn't even need that much time after going inside and taking a look at the elevator that he expected me to get into and ride 750 feet straight down into the caves !! He didn't even give me time to think about it and before I knew what was happening, he had me on the elevator heading down into the center of the mountain. I just held my breath and closed my eyes and the next thing I remember was the elevator doors opening. We stepped out of the elevator and into the caves where it was really cold but really beautiful. I wasn't very happy to be 750 feet underground, freezing cold wearing a tank top and shorts. Although I was terrified, I was very glad that Tim forced me to do this because these caves were definitely an amazing
"Starchild"
Tim forced me into this shop so we could get some souvenirs !! sight to see. We strolled around and took a few pictures and then we headed back up to civilization. I have never been so happy to see two elevator doors open in all of my life !! I stepped off and headed straight for the outdoors. Tim soon followed and we were just in time for the beginning of the race. We got settled in as the satellite located the right channel and then we headed out of Carlsbad. This park is really neat and it is full of all kinds of different plants, flowers and cacti that you don't see in other places. On the way out, we stopped and took some pictures of the unique greenery. This is where Tim got the bright idea to pick a cactus for me and ended up with lots of tiny little thorns in his fingers. I got the tweezers and removed all that I could and then we were back on the road. A little while later we eventually crossed over into Texas making it our 20th state of the trip. As we were driving down the Texan highway we had a little roadrunner cross the road in front of us
Roswell Street Lights !!
The street lights in Roswell are glowing alien heads !! and soon after that we spotted a huge tarantula in the road. This meant we had two new animals to add to our growing list. Tim continued to drive and watch the race as I drifted off here and there. By the time we made it to Fredericksburg, Texas we had traveled a total of 624 miles for the day and it was 3:30 in the morning. We pulled into the local Wal-Mart and we were fast asleep. Tomorrow we will head over to Austin to visit with our friends Charles and Ginger but until then, Have a great day and God Bless !!!
