March 31st 2007 I had heard a lot about the
Cheekwood Gardens here in Nashville but never had the time to visit before. We all had planned to go this weekend but Karthik ended up having to stay behind due to school work.
The weather forecast was really good (about 75 degrees fahrenheit) and he wanted us to carry on so we did, as there were only few more weekends left before our parents left back to India. Very important for this trip was the picnic lunch that we packed consisting of cucumber-mayo sandwiches, puli kachal (tamarind rice) and thalichi kotina thayyir satham (seasoned curd rice). yum yum yum 😊
We left at about 9:30 am reaching in 15 mins time. The entry fee was $5 with a student ID and $10 for adults. So once we entered, we parked and then looked at the map. Well, I have to say for what I expected I was pretty disappointed. The garden was huge and was spread out pretty nicely, but there was nothing extraordinary like amazing blossoms or a beautiful musuem to justify the $10 entry fee. There was also the ongoing exhibition of
The Matilda Geddings Gray Collection of Fabergé which I did not find very impressive.
We had fun neverthless by taking tons of pictures (the pictures were too much considering what the park had) and then having a great lunch . We left by 4 pm to come home. The park is a great place for one to relax and to spend some quality time. It is like any other state park only a little bit fancier.
The pictures hopefully give a feel for the place.
P.S. The intial few pictures were taken at
Opry land mall and at the
Rainforest Cafe where we went for dinner on Friday the 30th of March.
