12-01-09 While reading different post on the Motorcycle Tourers Forum I saw an interesting post about custom fitted earphones that are both easy to make and work very well. I clicked onto the link for EarFuze and started reading the product information. The custom earphones looked like a solution to a problem that I have been having while taking some of my long distance motorcycle rides. After much consideration and a few phone calls I decided to give them a try and placed my order. For the past 12 months I have been using Skull Candy ear buds to link my XM Radio and my GPS to my ears. The Skull Candy had a great sound, especially for the $29.99 price, but after 45 minutes or so they would start to become uncom... read more

Over the last year and half my wife has complained about the little 7 ½ inch seat on the back of the Shadow. So I went out on a quest to find a replacement seat to provide her comfort and enable her to take longer rides with me and Thumper. I checked out Mustang seats, Russell’s and even companies that would rebuild the Honda seat that came with the Shadow. All the seats I found were, in my opinion, way out of the price point I had set for the Shadow. If I had a Goldwing or a large touring bike that I planned on keeping for a life time, then yes $500 or more would be a price point that I could justify, but not for a bike that I hope to replace in a ... read more

On Sunday 09-27-09, after church, I decided to finally check out the motorcycle after getting it back earlier in the week from Honda of Sumter. There were a few things that I still had to do and I worked on them little by little all week long. The main thing that had to be done was rebuilding the mount for the XM radio. I used Testors glue to glue the plastic pieces back together. It reminded me of all the model airplanes I built when I was younger. I also had to reinstall my Hella FF50 driving lights. I found a good price on a new set on the web. Other small things included putting on the rear view mirror and replacing some of the stickers on my new windshield. To be honest it had been ... read more

Yesterday we left Palm Key at 8 a.m. so sorry to leave such a beautiful place and we drove to Santee State Park where we took a morning Fisheagle pontoon tour boat of the swamps and Lake Marion. We saw ospreys feeding their young in huge nests, egrets, herons, alligators, hyacinth, water lillies, Jesus birds (they walk on water), snake birds, and other fascinating things like a dead alligator rotting on the banks of the swamp. (talk about stench from a 14 foot dead alligator in that heat)!! We met Polly, Russ, and Weston at our cabin in the afternoon and we all went out to a wonderful authentic VERY Southern dinner at Lone Star BBQ ust outside the park. Here BBQ is a noun not a verb! We had grits and tomato pie, hush puppies, ... read more

After traveling in rain for several days we stopped in South Carolina for a quick fix with family. Sherri, John and granddaughter Sarah welcomed us. We watched 8-1/2 year old Sarah do swimming lessons at the McLeod Hospital Fitness Center. Then strawberry pickin'. Finale of the day was grilling outside of deer burgers and deer sausage shot by their friend Bubba! Of course we can't leave out the entertainment. Sarah did Wii-guitar and even found music we enjoyed! Heading to Ohio now.... read more

Well, I am setting this blog up as my English version of my travel blog (the English/French/Spanish blog = mariearcher.blogspot.com just in case you want to check it out). Amber and I will be heading out of the USA on the 2nd of February, just under two weeks away! It's getting so close!! The closer it gets to our departure date, the more excited and nervous I get...both at the same time. I am in no form nervous as in not wanting to go. More so in the sense of: what will I inevitably forget to pack? Will I have time to see everyone in mind before I leave? Etc. But enough about the petits worries; I am so so so very excited to go to Angers. I've already started packing mes valises and I can't ... read more

Well, it is the day before our trip and I'm getting packed. The furry creature clinging to the sides of my face is about to go down the drain. I think I'm pretty much all set; now it's just a matter of pulling everything together. I called Lufthansa and they said that I can check my guitar case as a piece of luggage with no extra fees. Let's hope that that information is correct... Whatever, though, an extra $40 or something is worth not having to go a whole month without my guitar. We leave for Germany tomorrow out of Atlanta. Our flight is at 6:00pm, which means we'll get to Frankfurt pretty much when everyone there is waking up... I'm already anxious about having to stay awake for an entire day after a long flight ... read more

Tonight, since it was a nice day and the rain had finally stopped, my roommate Sarah and I went out walking to Columbia Hall to check on my car, over to the State House a few blocks away, around the Horseshoe, down by a little coffee and catering shop to snag a pic of Ingrid and Bogie, up to the building where we work, across to the library, and back to Rutledge Hall where we live (also on the horse shoe). I think the pictures kind of speak for themselves of the beauty of the South, but one that stood out the most to me was the statue at the State House. In the picture, behind the statue, is the Confederate flag made of white stars and the red background and blue stripes. Although I don't ... read more

Finally, I have internet again (full-time now) and I can add some of the pictures from the last adventure of my roadtrip/my first full day in Columbia, SC. It's been about four days since I said goodbye to my sister and headed back to the university to meet the rest of my roommates and spend my first night in Rutledge Hall. I have to say that it has been four of the best days of my life. The day (Sunday) started though with my sister and I getting up and checking out of our ghetto hotel (it was ghetto because of the Spanish lady and front desk lady having detailed discussions about detergent, the lady potting plants in front of the front office, the dryers outside under the stairwell, and the men sitting outside fixing their ... read more

Wow...five days, 2800 miles, nine tanks of gas, 7 lemonades, three nights of camping, 2 hotel check-ins, and 1 stop asking for directions later and my sister and I are finally in Columbia, SC. These past five days have gone by insanely fast, but we have seen so many new things. Day three started off with us jetting to see the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. It was such an amazing building that was built entirely of ears of corn and grains freshly grown from South Dakota. Each year, they rebuild the Corn Palace to a new theme and it has been being rebuilt since the 1890s (except some years during the wars). It is the only corn palace in the world and entirely free to visit. One of my favorite parts was where visitors put ... read more
