June 1, 2007 ….we’ve been in the southern Oregon coast for the last couple of days. The state park system here is fantastic. Oregon is our primary destination; we’re going to be here about 2 weeks. It’s definitely a lot cooler. It pretty much stays in the mid 50’s and is kind of foggy most of the time. They make some great clam chowder here… it actually seems like we’re in New England. We have to remind ourselves that this is the Pacific Ocean. Will add more to this as the week goes on..
June 4, 2007 - We’re at Sunset Bay state park in Coos Bay. There are lots of sea lions and seals on the rocks around here. Fishing is big time here, we went down to the docks yesterday and bought some fresh Chinook salmon and grilled it. Also got some clam chowder, smoked oysters and something called an oyster stick which is kind of like a big slim jim made with oysters and salmon. It’s kind of rainy today…first rain we’ve seen in a month. We’re heading up to see the lighthouse and dunes at Umpqua.
June 9th, 2007 - we're at Beverly Beach
Coastal Redwood Grove
Not as big around as the Sequoias but taller....350' in near Newport, OR. Kelly, Shawn & Grace flew out to meet us. Grace has grown so much in 6 weeks. We're having a ball with her. Kelly and Shawn went to see some friends in Eugene for a couple of days so we're catching up with Grace. Today is kinda rainy so we're headed to the aquarium.
