After all that Toby Keith excitement I wasn't sure if we would be able to sleep last night but we did and it was great. We actually slept until 9:00 which is kinda late for us while we're on the road but we can now officially say that we have "slept underneath that Amarillo sky" just like the country music song. We didn't have a whole lot planned for the day and it was a good thing because we ended up wasting about three and a half hours trying to get the computer fixed. After we got our showers and ate breakfast we decided to go on over to Palo Duro Canyon State Park and check it out first. It's in the book and so we wanted to see what it was all about. Once we arrived at the park and bought our tickets we rode around for a little while just enjoying the beautiful scenery. It was such a gorgeous day Tim and I thought "what the heck" let's get out the bikes and go for a ride. Jason and Heidi let us borrow their mountian bikes because we wanted to get some extra exercise on this trip so Tim
unlocked and unstrapped them and off we went. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing but hey, it's just bike riding right ? Well heck no, it ain't just bike riding !! It's a whole lot different when you're trying to ride on dirt and rocks and there's all kids of prickly sticky bushes everywhere and crap. Let's just say it was definitely an adventure and we survived without any major injuries or bloodshed.......well there was a little blood but not too much. We rode about five miles which was pretty good for our first time but it was getting really hot out so we made our way back to the motorhome. Plus we were getting eatin alive by these huge mosquitos even though we sprayed OFF from head to toe. Once we were back at the motorhome, we got washed off, stuck band aids on our little boo-boos and off we were to finish exploring Palo Duro in the comforts of our home with lots of air conditioning and no bugs. As we were riding through the park admiring all of God's beautiful work we came across a small deer nibbling on some grass on the side
of the road. Tim pulled over and we watched him for a few minutes, it sounds like such a simple thing as I'm typing this, but it was actually very surreal. It doesn't take much to entertain us so we sat and watched him eat and play for a few minutes but he was soon spooked by an oncoming car and ran away. I got some really good pictures and can't wait to see them. Tim and I both are just real simple people and we just love nature and all that it has to offer. As we travel across America and Canada a big part of the enjoyment for us is watching for wildlife and just soaking up the beauty and amazement of the land. We continued on through the park and just before we were to exit we came across a HUGE Texas longhorn on the side of the road. Of course Tim wanted to get out and aggravate it but I wouldn't let him. I love watching the animals from the safeness of the motorhome and prefer not to get too close but not Tim, he's gonna push it until one day he's gonna get bit, attacked
or eaten up by some wild animal. After a small discussion about why he couldn't get out and mess with the big animal with really big horns, we left the park and headed on over to the nearest Best Buy. It was time to see about getting a new battery pack for the laptop so we could stay connected to the world. After a thirty minute ride we finally arrived at Best Buy where we go in and wait another twenty minutes for someone to help us. About an hour and $400.00 later we leave Best Buy with a brand new laptop and needless to say I wasn't very happy. The guy who helped us told us that they didn't have any of the charger/battery pack's that we needed and that we wouldn't be able to find one anywhere around there so we had no other choice but to buy an new laptop unless we wanted to finish the trip without one. Well it was only day five and we still had several weeks to go and we just couldn't do it so we bought one. I was just sick at my stomach because my nephew Pat-Pat had let us
borrow his laptop so that we wouldn't have to buy a new one just for the trip because ours that we used in the past crashed on us. Oh well, such is life.......wait a minute that's not the end of the laptop story. Shortly after we left Best Buy with a shiny new computer, I spotted a Batteries Plus in a strip mall so we pulled in to see if by some miracle they would have what we were looking for. Guess what, they did !!! They had the very battery pack/charger that we needed and it was only $80.00. I was so excited and then I got really pissed because the guy at Best Buy said we would NEVER be able to find one. Oh yes, we bought the charger and then headed right back over to Best Buy to return the computer and have a little chitty chat with the little man who lied to us. I was very polite in telling them that I didn't appreciate being lied to and taken advantage of and he proceeded to tell me that he was sorry and blah blah blah. He straight up lied because he wanted to sell a
computer but that's okay........I bet he doesn't get employee of the month anytime soon ! Anyway, after wasting several hours fooling with around with that we caught some lunch at the local WHATABURGER and then hit the road. We really wanted to make it all the way to Las Vegas, New Mexico by nightfall so we headed on across I-40 out of Amarillo. A little ways out I-40 I look across this field and see all these car sticking up out of the ground and yelled for Tim to pull over. He had to go on down a little and do a u-turn but we eventually ended up in front of the cars. There were lots of other people pulled over too so I thought it must be something to it and we found out that it was actually Cadillac Ranch. We had heard about it before and seen it on tv several times but had no idea we were right there at it. We walked out into the field and checked out the cars, we did a little spray painting too. It was really neat and I'm so glad we saw it and was able to experience it. That's
one more thing we can check off the list !! Well, we had an exhausting day, from the mountain biking to the computer fiasco to Cadillac Ranch but it still wasn't over. After crossing over the Pecos River a couple of times and driving for a few more hours we finally made it to Las Vegas, New Mexico. Tim found us a cozy little spot in the corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot and we were fast asleep. I have no idea what tomorrow brings but I can't wait to find out. Sweet Dreams !
