Howdy folks............I mean, good morning. I guess I've been in Oklahoma too long cause their lingo is wearing off on me ! We had another good nights sleep and this time there was actually no water involved so that was nice. We were up pretty early and excited to get started on our adventures for the day. I made us some mcmuffins for breakfast, paid a few bills online, checked emails and then off we went to check out the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. I know it doesn't sound very exciting but once we arrived and began the tour it was actually very interesting and lots of fun. We strolled through the art exhibits and checked out all the artifacts and then made our way to the interactive studio. Here I learned how to ride a horse and Tim learned how to cook beans by the campfire. There were lots more fun things we did and it was kinda nice to relax and just act like a kid again. Next, we made our way over to the "little town" where we got to meet the local sheriff who ultimately locked Tim away in prison. It was a really cool
exhibit and we spent quite a while meandering through the little shops, the church, the dentist office and many other buildings. Lastly, we ended up in the theatre where we listened to a slide show and learned way more than I ever knew possible about cowboys and indians ! Like I said, it's not really a place you would think of going but I'm so glad we found it and were able to experience it. We finally made our way back to the motorhome and I was just dying to get on over to 9th Street to check out this place my friend Rebecca told me about. It's called Sara Sara Cupcakes and yes we found it and YES I went in and bought us some. It was really tough to pick just six because they offered twenty different flavors but I just went with me and Tim's favorites. I had to have the cowboy carrot, crimson & cream (red velvet) and the destin (key lime) and of course Tim loves chocolate so I got him the german chocolate, count rockula (rocky road) and a regular chocolate cupcake with vanilla bean icing. Once I made it back to the motorhome
and gathered my thoughts I realized that there was no way in the devil that I was gonna ruin my diet and eat three cupcakes so I struck up a deal with Tim and decided to just take a bite or two out of each one and he could have the rest......we'll see how that goes. LOL ! After spending the morning at the museum and running all over town to find delicious cupcakes, it was actually time for lunch so we headed on over to "Rivertown" to a place my friend Jeff recommended.......Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar" restaurant. It was a really neat place that had lots of country related items throughout and a great atmosphere but the food was pretty mediocre. Tim's burger was over cooked and my salad was straight out of a bag. Oh well, at least we can say we were there. As we were having lunch I overheard the lady next to us say something about Toby Keith living nearby and you know how shy I am but I went over to her anyway and asked for directions. She was very helpful and gave us all the info we needed to hunt Toby
down, she even told us that he drives a bright yellow Hummer. We walked down the cobblestone walkway, over the bridge and to the motorhome where Tim programmed in the street names and we were off in search of Toby. We drove down the highway and made our way to a little town in Oklahoma called Norman and before we knew it we were sitting right in front of Toby Keith's house !! Of course it's just what you would expect from a man who has more money than God...........an absolutely gorgeous sprawling estate with a humongous mansion right on top of the hill and the biggest USA flag flying high above it all. He lives on the corner of two intersecting roads so we decided to circle around for one more look and as we were turning on the road where his driveway sits, a big bright yellow Hummer comes right up behind us. It was Toby Keith himself and I thought Tim was going to have a heart attack right then and there. I snapped a quick picture before he spotted us and turned the other way to avoid being stalked by the crazy people from Georgia in
the motorhome. We were so freakin' excited, Tim was giving me high fives and I was screaming a little bit and it was very exciting. It's probably a good thing he didn't stop and talk to us because I don't know if we could have handled it. Tim LOVES him some Toby Keith and it's definitely gonna be hard to find something on this trip to top that moment. Well, it was time to get back on the road if we were going to make Amarillo tonight so we headed back to the highway and were on our way. We just had one more little stop in a small town called Clinton, OK where we wanted to see the Route 66 Museum. After a very long and windy drive, we finally made it to Clinton and found the museum. It was actually very informative and we enjoyed learning all about the history of Route 66. I had no idea so many lives were devastated when the new highways were constructed. Many many small gas stations, motels, restaurants and souvenir shops were forced to shut down due to lack of traffic and most of the owners were forced into bankruptcy. It's
actually very sad but I understand it was necessary. We wrapped up things at the Route 66 Museum and headed back down I-40 and eventually made it to Amarillo but it was not an easy drive for Tim. The winds were blowing around 35-40 miles per hour and it was hard for him to keep Big Bertha on the road. We actually passed an 18-wheeler that was on it's side in the ditch. By the time we arrived at the Wal-Mart in Amarillo, Tim's shoulders were throbbing and he was hurting pretty bad. I rubbed him down with some Icy Hot and he went on to bed. I tried to stay up and type some on my blogs but I smelled something burning and heard a sizzling sound and the next thing I know the computer is DEAD !! The battery pack was fried and so I put on my jammies and headed off to join Tim in bed. Today was a very long, hot and tiring day but it was fun and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Night night. :-)
