Glacier National Park
Lake in the middle of Glacier National Park Today we had a few hikes to do around the wonders of Glacier National Park. We got up early, ate breakfast and headed for Glacier National Park to hike. When we arrived there were plenty of people around ready to go hiking and there were also mountain goats roaming around. We started the hike but without Jon. Tour groups weren’t allowed in the National Park unless they were with an official tour guide, so for the duration of the hike we pretended we didn’t know Jon. The hike just went through a massive valley where glaciers once were a very long time ago. We were told to hike until we get to a lake which we did but we could only see it from a distance we were still very high. We took some photos and had a quick look around but couldn’t find another trailhead to get down. As we were leaving Jon caught up to us and showed us which was to go.
It was easy going down but we knew that the hike back was going to be a nightmare. We finally arrived at the lake which was beautiful and so clear you could see the rocks

Long twisting trail through Glacier National Park on the bottom. I had a wander around taking photos until Dave wanted to show me a nice waterfall. I followed him and asked him to get a photo of me, I slipped into the water and scraped my leg, Dave couldn’t stop laughing. We had a bit more of a look around then decided to head back up. The hike back up was terrible. It was extremely steep and zigzagged up to the top. By the time Dave and I made it to the top we could see the others barely half way up, Dave and I were absolutely stuffed, we stopped and had a 5 minute break. We walked all the way back to the visitors centre and ate some lunch while we waited for the others who trickled back one after the other. We headed back to the van to wait for the rest and when they turned up we could see Lucy limping, holding back tears. She’d fallen on the way back and hurt her knee and seemed to be in a lot of pain. So much pain that Jon decided to scrap the rest of the hikes and take her to the nearest emergency clinic.

Crystal clear water in the lake We jumped back into the van and had a huge drive, at least a few hours to the clinic and sent Lucy in. It was going to take a while so Dave and I headed off to the tiny casino down the road. We ended up big winners of $10 and celebrated with buying ice-creams. We returned and the rest of the group were still waiting for Lucy. So Dave introduced me to a silly penny throwing game which we played for at least an hour, still waiting for news of Lucy. Eventually she came out and told us that she needed surgery on her knee in the hospital down the road but we’d have to wait until tomorrow. We headed for the long trip back to the campsite in the late afternoon and didn’t get back until late evening. We were all tired and went straight to sleep.
