Hawaii. Yep! it has long been a dream of mine to visit all 50 states. I don't know if I will ever get there, but I do know that Hawaii was the one state I thought FOR SURE would be one I didn't visit! Or the last one I would visit. Why? Because it's so far away! And although it has attractions I would like to see, I was not passionate about wanting to go. Now before you cry "blasphemy", let me exp... Read Full Entry

These ki'i are the guardians of the temple and mausoleum that housed the bones of the royal chiefs. The mausoleum is the little shack just behind them.

This stone wall separates the royal grounds from the place of refuge. It was built in 1550.

The shoreline. This is 100% old lava flow meets ocean. No sand at all...not even black sand. It was very alien, and very slick when it's wet!

Looking back from the shore. The place of refuge was a sacred place in which no blood could be spilled and sins were absolved. Defeated warriors would come here to ride out the rest of the battle. Those who broke laws and were being chased by warriors would come here and have their sins forgiven by a priest, then they could return home as if nothing no law had been broken.

One of my favorite beaches from the trip! The sand here is said to be gray. It's super fine and the water is a gorgeous aqua!

This reminded me of England or Ireland. So crazy how varied the terrain is on the Big Island!

The woman is standing right in front of a blow hole. When the waves came in, it would fill with water and swirl around. It would calm and the water would recede when the waves went out. Unfortunately, I only have this on video.

Amazing!
Now I really want to go to Hawaii! Glad that Amy's wedding took you there and that they had such a beautiful ceremony. It looks amazing and there's so much culture to absorb. I'm also not a fan of being on/in the large bodies of water, but I could totally hang out on the beach and enjoy the breeze and smell of the ocean! The scenery looks amazing and it would be so cool to see all of the different climates. Oh, and the volcano thing kind of freaks me out and fascinates me all at the same time! Lol. That church and the murals look really pretty too. :) I didn't have much interest in Hawaii before reading your blog, but now I'm intrigued. :)
