Hawaii. Yep! it has long been a dream of mine to visit all 50 states. I don't know if I will ever get there, but I do know that Hawaii was the one state I thought FOR SURE would be one I didn't visit! Or the last one I would visit. Why? Because it's so far away! And although it has attractions I would like to see, I was not passionate about wanting to go. Now before you cry "blasphemy", let me exp... Read Full Entry

This is one of the major attractions in the park. When night falls, Kīlauea's crater glows from the hot magma that is just out of sight underground! So cool!

This is one of the more classic beaches we went to, and the only one on the Kona side that had a lifeguard. A good kid beach!

"Just beyond the lovely town of Hawi in North Kohala is the small town of Kapaau. In front of the North Kohala Civic Center stands the original King Kamehameha I Statue, erected not far from where Hawaii’s greatest king was born. A great warrior, diplomat and leader, King Kamehameha I united the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom in 1810 after years of conflict." if you want to read more... http://www.gohawaii.com/big-island/regions-neighborhoods/north-kohala/kamehameha-statue-kapaau

You can drive along the coast all over this island....except for here. This is where the road ends, and going around the other side of the island you will find another road that ends and an overlook just on the other side of these cliffs. So you can see them from both sides. :)

A person could hike down to the beach, but we were short on time, as always, so we just took a picture. :)

Unearthing the Kālua pig. It is buried in the ground, surrounded by cloth, palm leaves, and hot coals, and is left to cook for hours!

Each dance had an introduction giving you some background. The dances were of the Polynesian people and told a story, beginning with the earliest Polynesian settlers landing on Hawaii.

A fish. ha ha! There was a small shark under the bow of one of the sunken boats, but it was barely visible. Impossible to see in photos. :/

The walk along the Rainbow Falls trail to the boiling pots. It was very rainforest-y on the Hilo side of the island! And the boiling pots were a dud! They just looked like rapids.

Just something we saw along the road! There are SO MANY waterfalls on the Hilo side! Everything is trying to get to the ocean and the terrain on that side is steeper, so naturally water will fall! We couldn't stop at every one of them or we would never had made it back to Kona!

Amazing!
Now I really want to go to Hawaii! Glad that Amy's wedding took you there and that they had such a beautiful ceremony. It looks amazing and there's so much culture to absorb. I'm also not a fan of being on/in the large bodies of water, but I could totally hang out on the beach and enjoy the breeze and smell of the ocean! The scenery looks amazing and it would be so cool to see all of the different climates. Oh, and the volcano thing kind of freaks me out and fascinates me all at the same time! Lol. That church and the murals look really pretty too. :) I didn't have much interest in Hawaii before reading your blog, but now I'm intrigued. :)
