The One About Eating Too Much and Pee
Our last lazy day in Wauchula, tomorrow we all break camp and separate for a while. Ginnie and house guest Joanne are off to Thousand Trails Orlando, Kathy and her sister DeeDee are off to Fort Desoto Park, on a spit of land at the tip of the Tampa/St Petersburg peninsula, and me off to see cousin Valerie in Palm Harbor. I look forward to catching up with her every year, and hope we can connect with my grammar and HS classmate Maureen Kelly. I have visions of lots of good seafood, Greek pastries, steak, etc., etc., etc.
Yesterday we signed up to join the Thousand Trails caravan to the Lipizzaner Stallion winter home, which meant meeting at the Rec Hall at 8:30 for a 30 minute ride for a 10:00 show. We knew this was way too much time, but we decided to go for it anyway. At 8:30 there was no one else in sight. Just us 5. GROWL. We took a quick look around the weekly craft fair in the Rec Hall, got in the cars and went over the river and thru the woods to the Myakka, FL home of the Herrmann Lipizzaner Stallions. (You can find them on facebook by searching that name to see some great pictures, or
www.hlipizzans.com.) As near as I can figure out there are 3 major ‘companies’ of lipizzans in the US, all tour throughout the summer, each claim to be the ‘only true lipizzans’, etc. I just got to tell you they are magnificent animals, and when they jump off the ground with both feet in the air it sure is a sight to see. Here you can get up close with the stallions and mares, pet them and feed them. There are pony rides, and a food stand. They look for a $5 donation per person. The ‘shows’ the public sees in the winter are training sessions for the horses coming up thru the ranks. They are awesome.
Back to the yet unnamed Vista after 4 hours gone, and Winston had spiraled down. Without going into too many gory details, he pee’d in the rig. Twice. Both places hit the linoleum and laminated dinette and was easy to clean up. Easy, but oh so annoying. I can read him like a book now. He stands in the window on the dashboard and sees all the dogs pass by ‘his’ corner and pee on ‘his’ tree. He cannot go outside to defend his turf, so he marks inside to show his dominance. After I got done with him, he now knows once again who is the dominant beast in MY house. He still won’t look at me in the eyes and is very docile and humble. So, back into the crate when I next leave him. I just realized I never told you the end of the crate story!!! I had a revelation at 3:00 am the night I lost it. I remembered I put it in one of the outside basement storage areas under the dinette. When I got up in the morning, sure enough there it was, kind of underneath a towel. I called salesman Joe and he was not happy with me, he had been looking all over for it without success. No wonder. I had it. I apologized as best as I could, but he was pissed.
No heart issues today at all. No palpitations, no rapid heart rate, and ankles are not swollen. I am happy.
Happy hour introduced us to newly arrived friends of Ginnie’s from previous years who had a lot of fun stories to share with us. Good people, from the Hershey, PA area.
Dinner tonight at Giovanni’s in downtown Wauchula. The rest of the sidewalks in Wauchula had already been rolled up at 6:30, but Giovanni’s was hopping. I had great pizza, the rest had different types of pasta/chicken dishes, with soup and salad bar, and lots of leftovers came home. Then Ginnie remembered there was a pretty slick ice cream store in town, so off we drove. For $4 for small, $5 for large, they take a portion of thick white creamy liquid stuff and put it in to a metal mixing bowl. They put in 2 or 3 flavorings, depending on size, flash freeze it from the tank of liquid oxygen they have nearby, and hand beat until nice and chunky and finished. I had coffee/Reeses and it was very yummy. More leftovers for all to bring home. Absolutely stuffed!!!!
Winston was sleeping on my bed when I got home. He moved my pillow to get at my pajamas underneath, rolled them up into a ball and was curled up in middle. How can I be mad at this creature? He was a good boy.
