I slept like a log again last night. I keep mentioning it because I haven’t slept well since I broke my collar bone in Nov. The collar bone feels almost normal now, so it must be almost completely healed. No kayaking yet though.
After walking Oscar briefly, I went to the office where they have wi-fi service. I wanted to get there before the crowd and slow service. I had so many e-mails it took me 2 hrs to go through them and then I posted my blog from the 13th and 14th. When I was leaving the office I found out that my friend Ginny was having trouble with George again and was going to the vet again, 2nd time in 2 days. So Kat went with her and I am staying to take care of Kat’s dog Winston and Oscar, Lioness went with George. Got all that so far?
George is the Doberman with dwarfism and Ginny knew he wouldn’t live long but she was hoping for more than the 4 years she’s had so far.
I must tell you a little about this campground were I’m staying. It is called Peace
River in Wauchula, FL and is part of the Thousand Trails organization. You buy into the club, one fee each year, and you can stay for free at any of their campgrounds for 30 days each year. After that you pay a small fee $15.00 a night. There are other rules but that is basically how it works. You make a reservation, come into the campground and you are assigned a temporary site, water and electric only, no sewer. The next day at noon the management makes a list of all the empty sites and the first person on the list gets first choice. Sometimes it takes 2 days to get a permanent site. So at noon everybody is driving around to see what site they like and where they will end up. I am just here for 6 nights so I was lucky to find a site the first day that the bigger rigs couldn’t get into. It is on quite a slope so Pennelope is on stilts in the back. There is nothing behind us but the woods and nature, which means alligators and snakes. We do have a pair of paragon falcons that have taken up residence
so we see and hear them often, can’t get a good picture yet though.
There are 2 feral cats that hang out around here and are driving Oscar crazy. They sit just out of his reach licking themselves and looking very satisfied.
Yesterday we went to Dusty’s for Kat to look at a new rv, so of course I had to look too. I found a 2009 24 ft class B+, diesel that I really liked with 1 slide and a full bathroom, large shower. I didn’t know how much it was so I talked to the salesperson and got figures on what they would give me for mine and their bottom line. They wanted my rig and $60,000.00. When I got home I apologized to Pennelope for even considering trading her in and settled myself with the wonderful camper I have. Pennelope is 19’ and the class B+ is a little wider and higher and with the slide would give me lots more room inside. But the beauty of camping is to spend more time outside, so that is where we are right now.
The weather has been fabulous. It
red shoulder hawk
Finally got his picture was cold a few nights but then the sun comes out and warms to 70 or so which feels hot to me. It is supposed to be 80 today, good for sitting under one of these beautiful live oaks and reading a book.
Kat and Ginny came back without George. It seems his blood count was 8 instead of 40 so George needed a transfusion. We’ll know more tomorrow.
So we had an extended happy hour and dinner and Ginny finally slept.
