It’s Warmer
I set the alarm to take a picture of sunrise but didn’t need it, I just woke up. I had 2 cameras standing by, didn’t even have to get out of bed.
Since I had and early start I thought I’d try to do a load of wash. There is one washer and dryer for the whole campground so to find it not in use was wonderful. I put in one load just to have enough clean shirts to make it home. That required going back and forth several times. There was also a sink with hot water so I brought my dishes over while the washer finished and got clean dishes too.
Then after my breakfast it was time for Oscar’s walk and also a lookout for wildlife. We toured the campground and the boardwalk but nothing about. I saw Becky and was talking to her when she spotted a flock of birds. We both ran toward the beach and luckily the flock flew closer to us. It was a huge flock of white pelicans. They must have been migrating as they had a destination in mind and because of the number of
them. There were over 100. What a rare sight, I was thrilled! I saw three white pelicans in my life and that was in the lake at Cody dam in WY. I will look these birds up and find out their habits for the next blog. I can’t always get on the internet so I’ll report later.
We talked to other people about the pelicans, all were excited, this is a real bird watcher’s paradise. There are always people about with binoculars looking for what treasure they can find.
We are all treasure hunters in one form or another. What is it about the human spirit that we are always searching for something better or special. Be it a great bird, or picture, or shell, or job. You get the idea….
It was warmer today, less wind and a welcome relief from the cold temps and wind we’ve had earlier in the week. I had a lovely short nap on the beach today.
I met another woman traveling alone, her name is Judith. She is from Ontario, traveling in a Roadtrek, camper like mine and spends about 5 months a year on the road. Mostly in
the US and mainly in the winter. The strange thing is that she has a husband at home who doesn’t like to travel and she does, so off she has gone for the last 8 years. I guess that’s what keeps them married. She is heading out for AZ tomorrow. I do it myself but when I see someone else it surprises me.
Judith came into “town” with me to get a little gas and a few groceries. It was nice visiting with her and as a treat we stopped for an ice cream cone, tasted great!
Once back home I was ready for dinner then it was time for sunset at the beach. There were high clouds so I didn’t know what kind of light we’d get, but it’s sunset. There were several people there already so I planted my chair and settled in for the show. Pictures..
The other nights sunset has been almost a reverent experience. People talking in hushed tones and just sitting still. Not tonight. There were about 6 kids that invaded the peace, ran around and screamed and were just kids. I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed the other nights.
I love traveling during the winter when kids are in school.
Back in the camper, it’s settle in for the night.
