Under and Under
Mind out I'm swimming under Penultimate day
Actually it's over and I've been back at work for a day but this is the first chance I've had to finish the blog when I've had internet access!
Our Embassy Suites in Miami was great - another hearty breakfast - we're getting good at setting ourselves up for the day - floowed by yet another swim in the outdoor pool. For $109 for 5 of us we get bed and breakfast with all the facilities you would expect. Thats' less than £12 a head. I can't think of any hotel in the Uk that could come close to that? Took a few pictures of the hotel and the Miami International airport and even managed one of all of them in the lift.
We hadn't a vast amount of time as we were catching a flight to New York at 16:36 and needed to drop the car of at the Alamo rent a car return and then take the bus to the airport, leaving a couple of hours to check-in and clear security.
Rather than going to anything in particular and not wanting to go in the sea as we would get hot
Are you there
Adjusting glasses and salty we toured in the car and got out for an ice-cream on the end of Ocean drive. As there was a police car here the kids couldn't exist posing. CSI Miami at it's best!
Then we drove back along Ocean Drive and took a few more pictures. Notable here were the bikini clad roller skaters and the limos. Art Deco buildings everywhere - even the Burger King.
Drove out on the Miami expressway amd followed the signs to the rental return. Dropped the car, sorted out the backage, losing Catherine's make-up as well... then took the bus to the airport. Check-in was a relative doddle only about 10 minutes and a smallish queue for security. They aren't very efficient though as we took sun tan cream, savlon, bite cream, talc on the plane. No searching of your carry on bags at all.
Arrived at La Guardia at about 9.00 and quickly picked up our checked bags and got a taxi. It is far cheaper going from La Guardia into Manhattan than either JFK or Newark is this because La Guardia caters mainly for internal flights while JFK and Newark are international and they rip you
Trains
Train honks as it crosses.
Miami Jai-Alai is a fast racket game that I'm sure I saw in Spain off? Anyway including a tip it was only about $35 compared to over a $100 from JFK (OK it was a Limo... but even so).
Taxi driver was from Haiti and very chatty took us to the Hotel Belleclaire http://www.hotelbelleclaire.com/index.html which was clean and cheap and on the Upper West Side about 4 blocks from the Natural History Museum and 20 yards from Boardway. Like a number of hotels around here it doesn't have a restaurant of it's own so you can order in from oustide or pop across the road to the rather excellent Manhattan diner. Anyway we had a great family room and I popped round the corner to the Deli for a few drinks and sandwiches for the gannets. Matthew who is never ill had a quick vomit in the toilet (we flew over Tropical Storm Ernesto on the way up to New York) and then got on with eating again. He should play rugby when he's older!
People eventually drifted of the sleep about midnight. Tomorrow will be our last day.
